Zoologist from the Faculty of Biology represented Ukraine as an expert at the international forum in Switzerland

The 8th meeting of the group of experts on the conservation of amphibians and reptiles (including marine turtles) in Europe was convened under the aegis of the Council of Europe Secretariat in Bern (Switzerland) on July 1-2, 2015. The meeting was organized within the framework of the Bern Convention and on the invitation of the Swiss government.

Ukraine was represented by the assistant professor of the Department of Zoology of the Biological Faculty of Uzhhorod National University Fedir Kurtyak, who reported on the Emerald Network habitats importance in the conservation of amphibians and reptiles of Ukraine.

The meeting was also attended by experts from Albania, Andorra, Armenia, Austria, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Burkina Faso, Croatia, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Moldova, Monaco, Montenegro, Morocco, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Senegal, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Macedonia, Tunisia, Turkey, Ukraine and the United Kingdom

In addition to basic reports, each expert made a report on the measures taken for the protection of amphibians and reptiles in the participating countries, to implement action plans adopted by the Standing Committee of the Bern Convention.

Special attention of experts was paid to the conservation of marine turtles.
