UzhNU was visited by Member of the European Parliament for Slovakia Ivan Stefanec

On Friday, May 27th, a Member of the European Parliament for Slovakia Ivan Stefanec paid a visit to Uzhhorod National University. The MP had a friendly business conversation with the Rector of UzhNU Professor Volodymyr Smolanka,  Consul General of the Slovak Republic in Uzhhorod Janka Burjanova, Vice-rector of UzhNU Myroslava Lendel, heads of departments of foreign relations and communications of UzhNU Oksana Svezhentseva and Vasyl Ilnytsky.

Mr.Smolanka thanked Mr.Stefanec for Slovakia’s continued multilateral support of Ukraine, which is currently suffering from the Russian aggression. They discussed urgent need for the development of border infrastructure between the two countries, since existing checkpoints are a serious deterrent to rapid development of mutually beneficial cooperation between Ukraine and the EU in general and Slovakia in particular and dynamically developing cross-border relations.

It was stressed during the conversation that UzhNU had close relationship with Technical University of Kosice, the University of Presov and some Universities of Bratislava. Uzhhorod University is taking advantage of their experience in creating technology parks, "incubators of ideas" and the development of business projects.

"Ukraine and Slovakia have a common European goal. The future of Slovakia, especially its Eastern part, is closely associated with the development of Ukraine. I was in Kyiv, Ivano-Frankivsk and now I’m here and I’m pleased with such strong support of the EU, which is at times even higher than in some EU member states. We need to move ahead, to introduce visa-free regime to give impetus to further development of our relations. We have to enable people, small businesses, tourists and scientists of our countries collaborate without barriers. This is the main condition for the development. At university we talked about the possibility of cooperation in the implementation of startups, both Ukrainian and Slovak, about the creation of "incubators" with the best environment for their development and implementation. Another important factor is the academic mobility not only of students but also teachers and we should contribute to its development", - said Mr.Stefanec.

At the end of his stay at UzhNU, the MP delivered a lecture to students and presented three scholarships allowing students to undergo introductory practical training in the European Commission in Brussels.
