Ukraine's European integration was discussed with political science experts from the Petr Andrei University of Iași (Romania) at the Faculty of Social Sciences of UzhNU

As part of a working visit to establish cooperation, a delegation from the Petr Andrei University of Iași (Romania) held a workshop for students and teachers of the Faculty of Social Sciences. The key topics of the event were Ukraine's European integration and good neighbourliness between Romania and Ukraine. The event was opened by the Vice-Rector of UzhNU, Doctor of Political Sciences Myroslava Lendiel: ‘Today, thanks to the efforts of our distinguished guests from the Petr Andrei University, we have the opportunity to reflect on our European integration future, as well as to hear opinions on the important experience Romania has gained during its accession to the European Union.’

Cristian Bocanchu, Professor and Head of Quality Assurance at the University of Petra Andrei, said: ‘We are very pleased to be at Uzhhorod National University. And we would like to exchange views on the situations in which our countries are, and especially on Ukraine's European integration processes. First of all, I would like to emphasise that Romania stands by Ukraine in its war against the enemy and its accession to the European Union. Also, our relations can be useful during the processes in education and science related to Ukraine's European integration.’

‘The primary purpose of the visit is to sign a cooperation agreement between our universities and to identify future joint steps. During today's workshop, I would like to discuss with you what awaits Ukraine after the war and how Ukraine's relations with the EU countries will develop. This topic is close to Romania's heart and we would like to share with you the challenges that our country has faced. Of course, our path was different, as we joined the European Union in peaceful times. I would also like to introduce you to our publication, the political science journal Polis, which is available online, so anyone can read it if they wish,’ said Sorin Bocancu, Professor and Vice-Rector of the Petr Andrei University.

The presentations were followed by an interesting discussion between the experts and the FSN faculty and students. In particular, the questions concerned the current political situation in Romania, the role of the communist past, Russian influences, right-wing radical movements in Europe, the attitude towards national minorities in European countries, Romania's relations with its neighbours, etc.
