New Opportunities for UzhNU Students and Faculty in the Field of International Cooperation and the Implementation of Modern European Educational Practices

New Opportunities for UzhNU Students and Faculty in the Field of International Cooperation and the Implementation of Modern European Educational Practices

Throughout the 2025–2026 academic year, Uzhhorod National University actively continued its participation in the Erasmus+ RE-DIRECTION international educational project, aimed at promoting digital transformation, inclusivity, and sustainable development in higher education institutions in Ukraine and Georgia.

As part of the project, partner universities—a consortium of higher education institutions from Ukraine, Georgia, Germany, and Greece—developed and piloted a series of short-term courses, including: “Digital Information Skills,” “Digital Security,” “Digital Competence and Problem-Solving Skills,” “Inclusive Communication for All,” “Diversity and Inclusion,” “Contributing to a Sustainable Future,” “Supporting Sustainable Development,” and “Addressing Sustainable Development Challenges.” Following this, students at UzhNU, along with students from other Ukrainian and European universities, completed these specially designed training modules.

At Uzhhorod National University, the pilot program of the RE-DIRECTION project was implemented with the participation of students from the Faculty of History and International Relations. Representatives of the Department of International Studies and Public Communications at the Faculty of History and International Relations are the project implementers at the university and coordinate its implementation at UzhNU. Assoc. Prof. Andreiko V. I., Assoc. Prof. Melehanych H. I., and Assoc. Prof. Shelemba M. M. developed and presented their pilot course “Diversity and Inclusivity” to students, which promotes a better understanding of the principles of inclusivity and the development of a modern, open, and diverse society.

About 70 of our students from various majors registered on the project platform and completed at least one course. The most active participants were first- and second-year students majoring in international relations, management, and marketing. During the course, participants actively worked with interactive materials, watched videos, completed practical assignments, studied recommended literature, and took tests to assess their acquired knowledge and practical skills. It is worth noting that for the convenience of our students, all educational components and learning materials have been translated into Ukrainian. Participation in RE-DIRECTION gave students the opportunity to gain practical experience working in an international educational environment and to engage with European approaches in the field of higher education,” noted the project leader, Dean of the Faculty of International Management and Business (FIMB), Associate Professor Andreiko V. I.

“The piloting of the courses revealed high student interest in the topics of digital literacy, inclusive communication, and sustainable development. It is important to us that participants not only took tests but also acquired practical skills they can apply in their studies and professional activities,” noted project expert, Associate Professor Mykhailo Shelemba.

The piloting process for the short-term training courses included a feedback phase aimed at further refining and improving the course content, methodology, and organizational components based on an analysis of learning outcomes.

“I am very pleased with the quality of our students’ responses—they did a great job! Although completing all the topics in the courses was not a mandatory requirement, many students completed them in full. The students prepared high-quality presentations and provided detailed, descriptive answers. Our first-year students and two master’s students made a special effort. Based on the results of completing the learning modules, 25 students received certificates for successfully finishing more than two courses and completing all required assignments and final tests. I plan to continue actively using the platform in the courses I teach,” emphasized RE-DIRECTION project expert and Associate Professor Hanna Melehanych.

According to the head of the International Relations Department, Associate Professor Oksana Svezhentseva, who is also part of the project team, such pilot courses give students at Uzhhorod National University the opportunity to integrate into modern educational approaches and gain equal opportunities with students from other European countries. Overall, such Erasmus+ KA2 projects help build a transparent, competitive, and innovative higher education system that aligns with European values and standards.

The educational modules of the RE-DIRECTION project are planned to be refined and integrated into the broader educational process of partner universities, allowing interested students to enroll in the courses and acquire relevant competencies in line with modern European educational approaches.
