"Science, business and government: synergy for the sake of development" — UzhNU united scientists, entrepreneurs and government representatives
On May 29, 2026, the forum "Science, business and power: synergy for the sake of development" was held on the basis of the Uzhhorod National University. The event was organized by the research department of UzhNU, the Faculty of Geography, the Student Scientific Society, the Research Institute of Solid State Physics and Chemistry, the National Center for Molecular Microbiology and Immunology of Mucous Membranes, the National Center for Support of the Development of Health Care Systems, Public Health and the Social Sphere, and the National Center for Microbiology and Biotechnology "MicroBioTech".
The forum gathered participants from three sectors. University science was represented by Ivan Myronyuk, vice-rector for scientific work of UzhNU, Kateryna Skubenych, head of the research department, Kateryna Kovalchuk, deputy head of the research department, Natalia Frechka, head of the department of scientific and technical information, Vitaly Serzhanov, head of the department of scientific grant activities, Oleksandr Molnar, employee of the Research Institute of Physics and Solid State Chemistry, Svitlana Burmey, employee of the National Research Center for Molecular Microbiology and manager of client work at EDIENS LLC, Valeriya Brych, director of the National Center for Support for the Development of Healthcare Systems, Public Health and Social Sphere, Maryna Kryvtsova, director of the National Center for Microbiology and Biotechnology "MicroBioTech", Pavlo Mulesa, head of the Department of Cybernetics and Applied Mathematics, Vladyslav Peresolyak, head of the Department of Geodesy, Land Management and geoinformatics, Oleksandr Grabar, professor of the semiconductor physics department, Stanislav Sukhan, director of the start-up school "StartUP School - UzhNU", Viktor Kudak, scientific director of the National Academy of Space Research, student Andriana Chopey, as well as representatives of the Student Scientific Society and the Council of Young Scientists. From the authorities — Taras Tryndyak, director of the Department of Economic and Regional Development of the Transcarpathian Autonomous Region. The business was represented by Nadiya Boyko, Scientific Director of EDIENS Company, Vitaly Sevostyanov, Technical
Director of Wind Parks of Ukraine Management Company LLC, Artem Bilak, Managing Partner of Fresh Plants LLC, Oleg Adamchuk, General Director of Interfil LLC, Olena Bukovska, Deputy Development Director of Uzhhorod Management Company LLC, business mentor Vitaly Matveev and co-founder of UpTakeSchool Tomas Gombos.

The event began with introductory remarks, vice-rector Ivan Myronyuk immediately outlined the main idea of the forum: "Today, it is practically impossible to compete with an individual - business, government or university. Ecosystems are now competing. And we gathered today in order to first of all develop and see the possibility of creating such an ecosystem in Transcarpathia at that time, where there will be this three-spiral model of innovation, where there is science, government and business." Taras Tryndyak, director of the governor of Zakarpattia Oblast, specified the problem from the side of the authorities: "As the authorities, we are trying to develop some strategies, but there is not enough information, some assessment from the side of scientists. It is extremely important for business that science is not just theoretical, but rather applied. That is, that these areas that are developing are appropriate, necessary, and in demand".
Scientific director of "EDIENS" Nadiya Boyko, who combines scientific and entrepreneurial activities, formulated briefly: "I can only confirm that there is no competition as such, it cannot be, if indeed the process is correctly understood. Because if you combine science, production and bring it to the consumer, everyone wins." This was followed by a speech by Vitaly Sevostyanov, Technical Director of Wind Parks of Ukraine LLC: "These three areas are very closely related. In the framework of this triangle, the government cannot exist, in principle, without business, because business is taxes. Business cannot exist without science, because science is experiments, it is technical solutions. And, of course, science cannot exist without power either." Artem Bilak from "Fresh Plants" addressed the scientists directly: "If representatives of science are present here, you just need to make yourself known, because colleagues in the business community do not have time to raise their heads and look around." Olena Bukovska, deputy director for development of LLC "Management Company "IP "Uzhhorod"" closed part of the congratulatory words, who also noted that this topic is urgent for all spheres.
After the welcoming words, the forum moved to the first block - the panel discussion "Science, business and power: opportunities for cooperation" moderated by Ivan Myronyuk. Representatives of all three levels gathered at the table: Taras Tryndyak from the government, Oleg Adamchuk and Vitaliy Sevostyanov from business, and the vice-rector himself from the university community. The central question became: what actually prevents cooperation? The participants agreed that the problem is not a lack of potential, but a lack of systemic communication.

The next block is a practical one called "Cooperation between science and business: innovations and startups." In this part, the speakers proved that such cooperation is already taking place and gave real examples. Already mentioned, Nadiya Boyko in her report "How science becomes a solution for people, the market and the state" talked about the path from microbiological research to products based on microbiome technologies. In the report "EdTech, IT and Cloud as a reality of modern education", Tomasz Gombos described how the startup UpTakeSchool, with the help of cloud technologies and financial discipline, reduced infrastructure costs by almost 70% and started stable work in wartime conditions. Business mentor Vitaly Matveev explained why even strong scientific ideas often do not reach the market in the report "Sales system of startups". His main message is that a startup needs not only a good product, but also systematic work with its presentation to investors and consumers.

The third block is pitching of scientific and innovative developments of UzhNU. Oleksandr Molnar from the Research Institute of Solid State Physics and Chemistry presented the "Telemetry system for rescue workers" — a set of sensors for firefighters that monitors the firefighter's health and environmental parameters in real time and outputs data through augmented reality glasses. Svitlana Burmey from the NDRC of Molecular Microbiology presented "Project products of the NDRC: microbiome, nutriomics and personalized prevention" — the result of 15 years of research in the field of microbiota correction and immunology. Andriana Chopey presented three student startups in the report "The Future of Rehabilitation: Innovation, Health and Mobility": a device for evidence-based assessment of the readiness of a stump for prosthetics, a wheelchair transformer for increasing the independence of people with disabilities, and a quick-fix pneumatic tire for field medicine. Marina Kryvtsova, director of the MicroBioTech National Research Center, presented "Antimicrobial phytopreparations and compositions" — standardized herbal remedies with proven antimicrobial effects that have passed clinical trials and can become an alternative to antibiotics in certain cases.

The forum ended with a question-and-answer session and an informal chat over coffee. The organizers consider it not as a one-time event, but as the beginning of a regular dialogue between the university, business and the authorities of Transcarpathia.
