Solemn extended meeting of the Academic Council at UzhNU
A solemn extended meeting of the Academic Council of SHEI “UzhNU" held on the occasion of the beginning of the new academic year took place on Friday, August 31, 2018. The meeting began with the National Anthem of Ukraine and the congratulations of the Rector of UzhNU Volodymyr Smolanka on the Day of Knowledge.
The main issue on the agenda of the solemn meeting of the Academic Council was Rector’s report "On the results of the work of the SHEI “UzhNU" in the academic year 2017/2018 and the first priority issues for the academic year 2018/2019".
When speaking about the enrolment campaign 2018, Volodymyr Smolanka stressed that it was not easy mainly because of the demographic crisis of 2001 (the year of birth of this year’s entrants) and poor EIT results in our region (the last 24th place for Transcarpathia in such subjects as Ukrainian language and literature, history of Ukraine, geography and biology). Despite these factors, the number of applications submitted to SHEI “UzhNU” was more than 15 000. According to the preliminary results of enrollment, the university was allocated 1597 state-funded places and 2060 places for those who would be able to study on a contractual basis.
The results of the work of UzhNU in the field of science and innovation are rather comforting. In 2018, the financing of scientific projects at the expense of the state budget was increased by UAH 2 023 590 and amounted to UAH 8 120 290.
The places UzhNU took in the rankings of Ukrainian universities are the following: Webometrics - 17th, Scopus - 12th, "Consolidated rating of Ukraine" - 25th and "Top-200" - 35th. UzhNU is the 13th by the enrollment to state-funded places among the Ukrainian universities.
After the solemn meeting of the Academic Council, the Rector of UzhNU Volodymyr Smolanka, Vice-rectors Oleksandr Slyvka, Ihor Studenyak, Myroslava Lendel, Oleksandr Rohach, Ihor Korol and Dmytro Soyma gave a press conference for the Transcarpathian media.
