In 2023, UzhNU signed 15 new international inter-institutional agreements

In 2023, UzhNU actively cooperated with 150 foreign partners, and 15 new international interinstitutional agreements were concluded. Also in 2023, UzhNU implemented 18 international projects.

In 2023, the most active cooperation continued with European universities, in particular with the University of Presov, the Kosice Technical University (Slovakia), Charles University in Prague (Czech Republic), the Western University of Vasile Goldish in Arad, the Union of Ukrainians in Romania (Romania), the University of Zagreb, the Polytechnic in Požega (Croatia), the University of Central Lancashire UCLan (UK), the University of L'Aquila (Italy), and the University of Hradec Králové (Czech Republic).

Membership of Uzhhorod National University in international associations, clusters, and consortia is important for further integration into the European scientific space: Magna Charta Universitatum, Conference of Rectors of the Danube Region, European University Association (EUA), Eastern Partnership University Cluster (EaPUC), CS-DC UNESCO UniTwin, EU GREEN Consortium (within the INTERACT project).

The cooperation between UzhNU and the University of Central Lancashire (UK) within the framework of the UK-Ukraine university twinning scheme continues to be effective. For the second year in a row, a two-week summer school for learning English was held at the University of Central Lancashire in Cyprus. Getting to know world-famous sights, exploring new places, combined with hours of English practice - this is how almost two dozen students of Uzhhorod National University remembered their summer holidays in 2023. It is worth noting that within the framework of the partnership with the University of Central Lancashire, two initiatives on online English courses for UzhNU students and staff have been implemented, and they are planned to continue next year.

Uzhhorod National University actively continues to cooperate within the framework of the Eastern Partnership University Cluster (EaPUC), initiated by Charles University (Czech Republic). This is a consortium of leading universities from the European Union and the Eastern Partnership countries, which focuses on cooperation in four key areas: education, science and research, best practices and the public role of the university.

During the year, UzhNU participated in the project "Designing new internationalisation pathways through the EU GREEN consortium" (INTERACT), focused on the cooperation of Ukrainian universities with EU GREEN partners (initiated by the Wroclaw University of Environmental and Life Sciences and supported by the National Agency for Academic Exchange (NAWA).

In 2023, SHEI UzhNU continued to develop partnerships to participate in the European academic mobility programme Erasmus+. Despite the restrictions imposed by the introduction of martial law, many of our students and academic staff joined this academic programme, which allows for the mobility of students and teachers on the basis of scholarships provided by the EU to cover tuition and living expenses. In 2023, the International Relations Department was actively involved in the implementation of Erasmus+ projects: Supporting Youth Mobility. More than four dozen students of various specialities had the opportunity to improve their soft skills and exchange experience with young people from European countries.

UzhNU won the largest number of scholarships for semester studies under the Erasmus+ programme together with the University of Pitesti (Romania), Josip Juraj Strossmeyer University of Osijek (Croatia), University of Zagreb (Croatia), University of Darmstadt (Germany), University of Evele (Sweden), University of Trnava (Slovakia) and others.

Semester studies and double degree programmes have become systematic. Active cooperation continued under the previously concluded agreements with the Pomeranian Academy in Słupsk (Poland), Pavol Jozef Safaryk University in Kosice (Slovakia), the Graduate School of Economics and Public Administration in Bratislava (Slovakia), and the University of Economics in Bratislava (Slovakia), and new cooperation with two foreign partners was launched. Based on the agreement on cooperation under the double degree programme with the University of L'Aquila (Italy), Master's students majoring in Applied Mathematics and Systems Analysis have the opportunity to study simultaneously at two universities - in Ukraine and Italy - for the second year in a row.

As of 31 December 2023, a total of 1087 foreign citizens, 40 bachelor's degree students, 1004 master's degree students, 13 postgraduate students, 24 clinical residents, 3 interns and 3 students of the preparatory department received educational services at the university.

The majority of foreign students are citizens of India - 844 people. Citizens of Nigeria, Jordan, Israel, Bangladesh, Ghana, Cameroon, Maldives, Zimbabwe, Austria, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Poland, the United Kingdom, the United States and other countries also study at UzhNU. The student body is represented by people from 39 countries.
