A meeting with Harvard University Professor Daniel J. Epstein was held at UzhNU
On Friday, 8 December, UzhNU hosted a meeting with Daniel J. Epstein, a lecturer at the Harvard University School of Public Administration, and an open lecture for students. Daniel J. Epstein received his PhD in comparative political science at Harvard University, working on democracy and party systems in Russia and Brazil. In 2016, he left academia to work on a U.S. presidential campaign and later served as a candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives in West Texas, where he also taught political science at Texas Tech University.
His current research focuses on party systems, nationalism and democracy. The meeting featured a roundtable discussion with deans and faculty on international cooperation, titled "How international universities like Harvard can best help Ukrainian scholars develop their research and connections with international scholars and institutions." Daniel J. Epstein spoke about the opportunities to support Ukrainian scientists under the new Scientists Without Borders (SWB) programme. "We want to help, to promote research by Ukrainian scientists, to expand their circle of scientific contacts abroad. This is one of the priorities of our programme," said Daniel J. Epstein.
A lecture was also held for students of the Uzhhorod National University on "The 2024 Presidential Election and the Competition of Political Parties in the United States". During the lecture, Daniel J. Epstein told the story of the formation of the two-party system in the United States, the electoral base of each party, and the change in the electoral preferences of American voters in the 60s of the 20th century. The scholar paid special attention to the 2024 election campaign and its impact on US politics.
