Working meeting on the implementation of the DRANICA.24 project

As part of the international project DRANICA.24 "Popularization of wooden products as elements of the intangible cultural heritage of the Carpathian Euroregion", which is implemented under the INTERREG VI-A NEXT Hungary–Slovakia–Romania–Ukraine program, representatives of the Maramures Museum of Sighetu Marmației (Romania) visited Uzhhorod National University.

The Romanian delegation included:

Chiş Vasile Timur, museographer;

Barz Mirela Ana, manager;

Chiş Anuța, chief accountant of the Maramures Museum.

The visit had two key components: a working meeting with the UzhNU team implementing DRANICA.24, and a presentation of a scientific publication about the Marmaros Romanians of Transcarpathia for university students and teachers.

Working meeting on the implementation of the DRANICA.24 project

During the meeting held at UzhNU, the partners discussed the status of the first stage of the project, the features of field research, documenting woodworking traditions, and preparations for the following events - international workshops, a festival, and the creation of a technical manual of traditional woodworking techniques.

UzhNU was represented by Myroslava Lendel, vice-rector and project manager; Oksana Svjezhentseva, communications manager; Ruslana Voloshyn, financial manager; project researchers and associate professors of the Department of Archaeology, Ethnology and Cultural Studies Pavlo Lenyo, Volodymyr Hutsul, Yuriy Slavik, Nadiya Keretsman, and Taras Datsyo, senior lecturer of the Department of Romance Languages and Foreign Literature.

During the discussion, the parties agreed on approaches to further collecting ethnographic and technological materials, and also exchanged experiences on preserving the traditions of woodworking, which are rapidly disappearing in the region. Particular attention was paid to the preparation of a technical manual on the traditions of woodworking in the Carpathians, which will become one of the main results of the project.

Presentation of the book “Marmaro Romanians from Transcarpathia, Ukraine”

A separate event of the visit was the presentation of the book “Marmaro Romanians from Transcarpathia, Ukraine”, which was held on November 13 at 12:00 at the Archaeological Museum of UzhNU named after E. Balagur by Chiş Vasyle Timur, museographer of the Maramures Museum.

The event was attended by students and teachers of the Faculty of History and International Relations and the Faculty of Foreign Philology.

The author presented a comprehensive study of the history, culture, life and identity of the Marmara Romanians living in the territory of modern Transcarpathia. In the book, the scientist traces their ethnic and cultural ties with Romania, the peculiarities of traditions, economic models and elements of tangible and intangible heritage.

The publication is an important contribution to the preservation of the cultural memory of the Carpathian region and directly resonates with the areas of work of the DRANICA.24 project, which is aimed at documenting and popularizing local traditions, including woodworking, as an element of living heritage.

After the presentation, a discussion was held with students on the intersection of ethnology, museology and modern approaches to the preservation of cultural heritage.

The visit of partners from Romania confirmed close communication between the project teams and strengthened opportunities for further joint research. DRANICA.24 continues to form an international network of specialists working to preserve the unique traditions of the Carpathian Euroregion and develop sustainable cultural tourism.
