Uzhhorod National University Explores New International Partnership Opportunities with the University of Lancashire and the Indo-Ukraine Chamber of Commerce & Industry

Representatives of Uzhhorod National University participated in an online meeting with colleagues from the University of Lancashire (United Kingdom) and the Indo-Ukraine Chamber of Commerce & Industry (IUCCI) to discuss the development of a new framework for international academic cooperation connecting Ukraine, the United Kingdom, and India.

The meeting brought together Vice Rector of Uzhhorod National University, Professor Myroslava Lendel, representatives of the International Relations Office and the International Students Office, President of the Indo-Ukraine Chamber of Commerce & Industry Armi Channa, Ukraine Education Hub Co-Founder and CEO Tanya Channa, representatives of the University of Lancashire’s international partnerships team, including Richard Antony Brame and Paul Rowe, as well as other participants from the partner institutions.

The discussions focused on establishing a trilateral model of cooperation involving Uzhhorod National University, the University of Lancashire, and the Ukraine Education Hub in India. The initiative aims to create new opportunities for academic collaboration, student recruitment, and the development of joint educational programmes that would connect students and institutions across the three countries.

Particular attention was given to the fields of Medicine and Dentistry, which remain among the strongest internationally oriented programmes at Uzhhorod National University. These programmes are delivered fully in English and have traditionally attracted students from India, Africa, and other regions of the world. Participants explored opportunities for developing joint study pathways and academic cooperation that would combine the strengths of Ukrainian and British higher education.

An important part of the discussion focused on professional qualifications and international recognition. The participants exchanged views on possible mechanisms that could support broader recognition of qualifications among partner countries, including pathways that would increase the attractiveness of Ukrainian medical education for prospective students from India.

The meeting also highlighted the important role of the recently established Ukraine Education Hub in India, an initiative of the Indo-Ukraine Chamber of Commerce & Industry aimed at strengthening educational ties between the two countries and facilitating access to information about Ukrainian higher education institutions.

Participants noted that before the full-scale Russian invasion, Ukraine was one of the most popular destinations for Indian students, particularly in medical education. Uzhhorod National University was among the institutions that welcomed a significant international student community and developed extensive experience in English-language instruction.

Today, Uzhhorod National University continues to strengthen its international profile and expand cooperation with global partners. Located in the westernmost region of Ukraine and bordering four European Union member states, the university offers a safe and internationally connected environment for students and researchers. UzhNU has also recently been recognized among Ukraine’s most effective universities in attracting and managing international funding, further reinforcing its position as a reliable partner for international academic cooperation.

The meeting concluded with an agreement to continue discussions on future collaborative initiatives, including joint educational programmes, student mobility opportunities, and institutional partnerships that would contribute to the internationalization of higher education and strengthen academic links between Ukraine, the United Kingdom, and India.
