Energy audit of UzhNU buildings as part of the project "Cross-Border Cooperation Smart Energy" started

An energy audit of some buildings of UzhNU with the involvement of students has started as part of the project "Cross-Border Cooperation Smart Energy" implemented and funded under the Joint Operational Programme Romania-Ukraine 2014-2020. On Tuesday, December 1, 2020,  representatives of the project met with students of the Faculty of Engineering and explained how to carry out energy audit procedure.

Myroslava Lendel, the vice-rector of Uzhhorod National University and the project manager, addressed the students: “We would like you to gain interesting experience and practical skills during these days. The acquired knowledge will probably help you to discover new opportunites for your professional growth. Indeed, energy audit and energy saving are very popular areas and they are becoming more and more popular. Electricity prices keep rising, so communities will be interested in spending less money on heating kindergartens and schools; they will conduct energy audits of public buildings. Some of you will probably become specialists in this field and participate in energy audit tenders in a few years. We have already purchased a thermal imager for carrying out energy audits, which will be delivered soon and used for educational and practical needs at our university."

Mykola Stashko, a technical director of Adamson, the company, which has won the tender for providing the services of energy audit of buildings and consulting UzhNU on engineering and construction issues within the framework of the project "Cross-Border Cooperation Smart Energy”, also met with the students. Adamson's energy auditors are the only ones in Ukraine certified by the American Building Performance Institute (BPI). Mykola Stashko shared the information about the company, the principles of its operation, devices used for energy audit, the conditions of the company’s cooperation with students, etc.

Then, together with Mykola Stashko and the chief electrician of UzhNU Anatoliy Hychka, the students moved on to conduct an energy audit in the premises of Uzhhorod National University. This week, students together with specialists will conduct an energy audit in the premises of the Faculty of Chemistry, Biology and student hostel №2. They will inspect the buildings to determine the current state of lighting and ventilation networks, and describe the condition of the building. They will also measure heat loss and collect the source information for further calculations of energy efficiency.
