The scientific research of the department's faculty is related to the complex topic "Processing of large amounts of information using logical and mathematical methods". During the existence of the department, its scientific and pedagogical staff have published 21 monographs and about 200 scientific articles in national and foreign scientific publications. The lecturers of the department work hard on the educational and methodological support of the disciplines they teach. In particular, about 40 textbooks, methodological and educational-methodical manuals in the disciplines taught by the department have been published, 8 textbooks prepared by the department's teachers have received the stamp of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine. Among the lecturers of the department are 2 Excellence in Education of Ukraine (Associate Professors Laver O.G. and Klyap M.I.), Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Professor Mitsa V.M. - Honored Worker of Science and Technology of Ukraine, Academician of the Academy of Sciences of Higher Education of Ukraine, external member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. The staff of the department provides the educational process both at the Faculty of Information Technology and at other faculties of Uzhhorod National University.

The department of information science and physics and mathematics disciplines maintains active scientific ties with such leading scientific organizations and Ukrainian higher education institutions as the National Technical University of Ukraine “Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute”; Lviv Polytechnic National University; Kharkiv National University of Radio Electronics; Institute of Electron Physics, National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine; National Pedagogical Dragomanov University; Ivan Franko National University of Lviv; and with such leading foreign higher education institutions as Pavol Jozef Šafárik University (Slovakia); Technical University of Košice (Slovakia); Institute of  Physics of the Slovak Academy of Sciences; Institute for Nuclear Research, Hungarian Academy of Sciences (Debrecen); etc.
