"The University has unique sports and recreational facilities which should be preserved and renovated", says Andriy Kurta

Recently sports and recreational complex was created at Uzhhorod National University as its new structural unit. It comprises all buildings that are related to the sports life of the University. We have had a conversation with its director Andriy Andriyovych Kurta.

What was the main reason for the creation of a new unit of UzhNU?

At the meeting held on the 26^th of February, University Academic Council decided that all sports facilities - playgrounds, gyms and a swimming pool – had to be combined into one complex for the improvement of their functioning and supervision of their use and maintenance. This was the reason for the rector of UzhNU to sign the respective order. At the end of March, I was asked to be at the head of this university structural unit. I have got significant managerial experience in governmental and business structures, so I think it’ll be useful for efficient management of university sports infrastructure.

What facilities will be supervised by you?

First and foremost, it is a sports complex in Ivan Franko street which has a swimming pool, gyms and sports grounds located nearby. We have got a gym and a football field near the building of the Natural sciences and Humanities College of UzhNU (Ukrayinska st.). There are also sports grounds near hostel №4 (Universytetska st). The university should also maintain and develop sports and recreation base "Plishka."

Can you name the top priority tasks that should be solved by the director and staff of the complex?

We are studying the current situation in each facility and conducting audits of their resource base and documentation. We are getting down to the development of the university sports infrastructure strategy. Our top priority task is to improve the conditions of doing sports for the students and staff of UzhNU. The gyms and the swimming pool can operate on a commercial basis after classes. Earned funds should be used to update the resource base of our sports facilities.
