Volunteers of the Interreg NEXT programme Hungary-Slovakia-Romania-Ukraine held a seminar for UzhNU students

 Volunteers from the Interreg NEXT programme Hungary-Slovakia-Romania-Ukraine visited UzhNU. Representatives of the programme held a seminar ‘(You) Rope: Young Minds Connecting Borders’. Explore, learn and shape the future of European territorial cooperation!’ for students and teachers of UzhNU, and created a promotional video demonstrating commitment to environmental awareness. This cooperation was offered to UzhNU as one of the two winning teams in the Interreg Cooperation Day 2024 cleaning competition.

Interreg cross-border programmes implemented under the EU Regional Policy or Cohesion Policy are important tools for balanced and integrated territorial development. In the current Programme, the four countries cooperate in a common structure through joint management and joint decision-making, with shared financial resources.

Programme volunteers Laura Meunier and Karolina Kolenkova told the participants about the importance of the EU Regional Policy, which aims to

- Reducing differences between European regions and providing support to each region to promote development and cohesion;

- addressing common challenges and finding common solutions;

- strengthening solidarity + economic and social integration of diverse communities across Europe;

- impact at the local level.

Participants were given the opportunity to test their knowledge of Cohesion Policy and receive gifts for the highest number of correct answers. Attendees were also invited to fill in a survey as part of the ‘Public Consultation on the Future of Interreg beyond 2027’.

Laura Ménière and Karolina Kolenkova shared their own experience of volunteering and joining the Interreg NEXT Hungary-Slovakia-Romania-Ukraine programme and encouraged young people aged 18 to 30 to send in their applications and try their hand at volunteering for the programme.

The event was attended by Head of the International Relations Department Oksana Svezhentseva, Director of the Centre for Innovation and Development Alyona Almashii, Director of the Centre for Sustainable Development Hanna Melehanych, Senior Lecturer of the Department of English Philology Antonina Bulyna, and others.
