UzhNU students took part in scientific master classes within the SOMMER project!
Teachers and scientists of the Faculty of Physics of UzhNU, as well as specialists of Kyiv National University named after Taras Shevchenko and Institute of Semiconductor Physics named after V.E. Lashkariova from the Ukrainian side, and employees of the Chemnitz University of Technology (Kemnitz) from Germany, who participate in the implementation of the international scientific and educational project "Solid Optical Materials and Methods: Education and Research Infrastructure (SOMMER!)" within the framework of the "SDG-Partnerships 2024-2027" program of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), which operates in 2024-2027.
In the process of implementing the project, a number of measures are foreseen that will contribute to the acquisition of qualifications by university students and postgraduates at a level that corresponds to professional activity in the European and global scientific community. Among such events, in particular, are the holding by scientists of the institutions of the Academy of Sciences of Ukraine of master classes on current problems of physics and technology of nanosystems and optical materials, methods of their diagnosis and the newest areas of application.
At the Department of Applied Physics and Quantum Electronics of the Faculty of Physics of UzhNU for students, graduate students and teachers in the period from October 13 to November 7, 2025, as part of the implementation of the project with the assistance of the head of the department, associate professor V.S. Bilanych, master classes were held by scientists of the Institute of Electronic Physics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

Master classes were conducted by researchers of the Department of Functional Electronics Materials, Candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences V.M.Kryshenik on the topic "Phase-change materials for energy-independent devices of modern photonics" and candidate of chemical sciences M.Yu. Philep on the topic "X-ray structural methods for determining the composition and parameters of nanomaterials".

Practical classes were held in the Department of Functional Electronics Materials of the Institute of Electronic Physics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine by candidates of physical and mathematical sciences I.M. Voinarovych and V.V. Lopushanskyi and Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences Yu.M. Azhniuk In particular, I.M. Voynarovych introduced students and graduate students in detail to technological manufacturing processes, methods of thermal and discrete thermal sputtering of thin non-crystalline layers for optical recording of information. V.V. Lopushanskyi and Yu.M. Azhniuk presented the technological procedures for obtaining semiconductor quantum dots (AgInS2 nanocrystals) by methods of colloidal chemistry and composites "silicate glass + cadmium sulfide-selenide CdSxSe1-x semiconductor quantum dots" by the solid-phase deposition method, as a result of which real objects in nanocrystalline form were obtained.

It should be noted that students and post-graduate students showed interest during the events, were active and engaged in discussions with speakers.
Summarizing the results of all the events, the head of the department of applied physics and quantum electronics, associate professor V.S. Bilanych and professor O.V. Gomonnai, who is the co-head of the project, noted the importance of such events and also assured that such master classes will be held by specialists of the Academy of Sciences of Ukraine in the next two years as well, which is foreseen by the "SOMMER!" project.
