UzhNU Joins the European Union’s Cybersecurity Academies Network

UzhNU Joins the European Union’s Cybersecurity Academies Network

Uzhhorod National University has officially joined the Industry-Academia Network—the leading network of the Cyber Security Skills Academy initiative, funded by the European Commission’s Digital Europe Programme.

The Department of Solid-State Electronics and Information Security (SSEIS) has been designated as the main hub for the project’s implementation and the university’s official representative in the network.

UzhNU as a cross-border cybersecurity hub

Thanks to its unique geographical location—directly on the border with four EU countries—Uzhhorod National University is becoming a strategic platform for building digital resilience on the EU’s eastern flank. This opens up new opportunities for international networking and cross-border cooperation between academia and business.

Why the SSEIS Department?

The success in the selection process is based on the department’s specific achievements, detailed on the TEIB.INFO website:

  • Modern Cyber Range: With support from the USAID project “Cybersecurity of Ukraine’s Critical Infrastructure,” the department operates a powerful virtual environment where students practice defending against cyberattacks in real time.
  • Large-scale CTF event: The “SSEIS-2026” Zakarpattia Regional Cybersecurity Championship brought together about 60 participants from across Ukraine for a 24-hour Capture the Flag competition.
  • Accredited degree programs in “Cybersecurity and Information Protection” integrate the best international data protection practices.

New horizons and opportunities

Participation in the Industry-Academia Network provides the SSEIS Department with direct access to 47 academic institutions and 20 leading technology companies in Europe, including Cisco, Microsoft, IBM, Google, Fortinet, and others. Potential areas of cooperation include: On May 19, 2026, the SSEIS department team will participate in a pan-European online meeting of network members, where it will have the opportunity to present UzhNU’s partnership expectations and begin negotiations on specific joint initiatives.

  • joint development and updating of curricula in accordance with the European Cybersecurity Competence Framework (ECSF);
  • student access to cybersecurity training grounds and practical materials from network partners;
  • mentoring programs, internships, and the potential integration of international certifications into the educational process.

We are confident that the synergy between our academic community and the European industry will strengthen digital security and contribute to the training of a new generation of cybersecurity specialists.
