The staff of UzhNU is the key to the university's effective work and ensuring the quality of education
The Rector of UzhNU Volodymyr Smolanka, speaking at the staff conference on January 17, emphasized that increasing the proportion of doctors of sciences, professors and candidates of sciences, doctors of philosophy, associate professors is one of the main tasks that was successfully implemented during the reporting year. Currently, the university employs 1252 research and teaching staff, including 177 doctors of sciences and 696 candidates of sciences, doctors of philosophy. There are 250 part-time employees, including 30 doctors of sciences and 98 candidates of sciences and doctors of philosophy. The share of doctors of sciences is 13.8 percent, candidates of sciences, doctors of philosophy 52.9 percent. The largest percentage of highly qualified personnel is at the following faculties: Economics - 89%, Biology - 88%, Mathematics and Digital Technologies - 85%, Physics - 83%, and the Educational and Research Institute of Chemistry and Ecology - 97%. The heads of the departments are 54 doctors of sciences, professors (50.0%) and 54 candidates of sciences, associate professors (50.0%).
UzhNU is proud of its staff: 5 academicians of the Academy of Sciences of the Higher School of Ukraine, 12 Honored Workers of Science and Technology of Ukraine, 9 Honored Educators of Ukraine, 7 Honored Lawyers of Ukraine, 14 Honored Doctors of Ukraine, 5 Honored Inventors of Ukraine, and an Honored Journalist of Ukraine.

It is important that the university staff continues to improve its competencies. During the reporting period, 380 academic staff improved their professional training in leading higher education institutions, research institutions, as well as at enterprises, institutions and organizations in accordance with the profile of training. Employees, postgraduate students and doctoral students are also trained in leading foreign educational institutions and research institutions under various programs, including academic mobility programs offered by the relevant institutions of European and other countries (Erasmus+, Academic Integrity, National Scholarship Program of the Slovak Republic (SALA), Joint Excellence in Science and Humanities, and many others).
During the reporting year, the academic staff of UzhNU paid considerable attention to training and professional development. The Attestation Board of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine approved the awarding of 61 academic titles by the Academic Council of the University, including: professor - 26, associate professor - 35. Ten attestation cases, including 3 for the awarding of the academic title of professor and 7 for the awarding of the title of associate professor, were submitted to the Attestation Board of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.
In addition, in 2022, Uzhhorod National University established 5 permanent specialized academic councils and 25 specialized academic councils for one-time dissertation defenses and the awarding of the degree of Doctor of Philosophy.
In the reporting year, the best students of the university who occupied the top positions in the ranking lists, had achievements in scientific work and were active in public life and student government were awarded. In accordance with the orders of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and the Orders of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, they received personalized scholarships during the current academic year, in particular: President of Ukraine - 4, Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine - 4, Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine - 1, V. Chornovil - 1, M. Hrushevsky - 1, and a social scholarship of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine for students from orphans and children from low-income families - 1.
This year, as in previous years, much attention was paid to digitalization. A significant impetus for this was provided by modern conditions, which prompted the need to develop and use network technologies to improve the quality of the educational process, introduce the latest teaching methods based on the use of modern computer tools, and provide selective authorized access to specific network resources for participants in the educational process. Thus, education at all levels is digitized through various services.
Google Workspace for Education, Microsoft, and Moodle are used to support the educational process at Uzhhorod National University. A relevant bonus for our educational institution in the framework of cooperation between the Ministry of Education and Science and Google was the Google Workspace for Education license: Teaching and Learning Upgrade license.
Gmail, Meet, Drive, Chat, Classroom, and other services are actively used in the educational process. As of the end of 2022, more than 23 thousand Google accounts have been created in the uzhnu.edu.ua domain for university teachers, staff and students (more than 20,000 at the end of 2021 and about 2,400 at the beginning of 2020). Over the past 6 months, users have received or sent 3.1 million (in 2021 - almost 2.5 million) emails, added more than 1 million files and provided access to 738 thousand files for sharing on Google Drive, which occupy tens of TB of memory on the Google Workspace platform.
Uzhhorod National University is also a member of the Coursera platform, which is one of the most popular international resources. The service offers users thousands of free online courses in various disciplines, which, upon successful completion, the user receives a certificate of completion. Currently, courses are offered in the following fields: engineering, humanities, medicine, biology, social sciences, mathematics, business, computer science, and others. Leading companies such as Google, Meta, IBM, Microsoft, Amazon Web Services, and universities from around the world such as Yale University, California Institute of the Arts, Duke University, Erasmus University Rotterdam, etc. present their developments here.
There are also opportunities for participants in the educational process on the Udemy and Labster platforms. Udemy contains more than 186,000 courses. Ukrainian educational institutions have free access to 12.5 thousand of the best Udemy courses.
