New sporting achievements of Andriy Fedorishko’s students
The World Bench Press Championship for adults, sub-juniors and juniors was held in the Swedish city of Sundsvall. Ukrainian team was represented by nine athletes, including two representatives of UzhNU: a student of the Faculty of Mathematics Yevhen Krysa and a University Sports Club member Oleksandr Shlyakhta, who had been trained by a senior lecturer of the department of physical education Andriy Fedorishko.
21-year-old Yevhen, who had been a vice-champion of the world among men and twice among juniors, lifted 210 kg in the second approach. The same weight was lifted by the athlete from Japan, slightly lighter than our athlete, who won the 3rd place, and the US representative finished the race in the second place with 212.5 kg. Taking into consideration that the American was heavier than our athlete, it was enough for Yevhen to repeat the American athlete’s result in the third approach in order to get the silver medal, but our athlete decided to lift 220 kg to fulfill the International Master norm. Unfortunately, the attempt was unsuccessful, so Yevhen finished the competition in the fourth place in the juniors’ under 74 kg weight class.
The debutant of the world competition, 35-year-old Oleksandr Shlyakhta, competing in the same weight class – under 74 kg, easily lifted 220 kg in the last approach and fulfilled the International Class Master of Sports of Ukraine norm for the first time.
The Uzhhorodian took the sixth place, bringing important points to the men’s team of Ukraine, which took the second place in a team competition. He is the third International Class Master prepared by Andriy Fedorishko in the last 9 years.
Athletes are grateful to the Rector of UzhNU Volodymyr Smolantka, the secretary of Uzhhorod city council Bohdan Andriyiv, adviser to the chair of the "Union Standard Bank" Petro Demeter, businessmen Vasyl Tsiryk, Vitaliy Shevchuk, Ihor Baran, Bohdan Lekhman for their assistance in organizing the trip to the World Championship.
