Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Lilia Hrynevych held an open dialogue with educators of Transcarpathia
On Friday, November 17th 2017, Lilia Hrynevych, the Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine, met with the employees of educational institutions of the Transcarpathian region in the building of Uzhhorod National University administration. The meeting was attended by the Rector of UzhNU Volodymyr Smolanka, People's Deputy of Ukraine Valeriy Lunchenko, the Director of the Ukrainian Center for Educational Quality Assessment Vadym Karandiy, the Head of the State Inspection of Educational Institutions of Ukraine Ruslan Hurak, the Director of the Department of Education and Science of the Transcarpathian Regional State Administration Hanna Sopkova and others.
The head of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine Lilia Hrynevych emphasized that joint efforts of scientists and educators were needed to solve an extremely important issue of organizing the learning of the Ukrainian language in schools of national minorities. "On December 10th, we expect the Venice Commission conclusions to be made public, which may serve as a basis for us to initiating a detailed study in the schools for national minorities, depending on the peculiarities of the language group of this minority and its linguistic environment. Therefore, today during this professional discussion, I would like to hear the opinions of Transcarpathian educators on how to organize this process better, which methodologies to apply, how to prepare textbooks to make them meet the European language recommendations, and other factors that you would like to offer today, "- said Lilia Hrynevych.
After the minister’s speech, there was an interesting professional discussion. Some of the proposals aimed at improving the learning of the Ukrainian language in schools of national minorities were to increase the time for Ukrainian language lessons, provide schools with qualified teachers, develop new programs that would streamline the learning process and improve the learning of the material, introduce a differentiated approach in organizing the state language for representatives of national minorities of non-Slavic linguistic groups, increase social motivation for learning the state language and increase teachers' salaries.
