Meeting with the representatives of the British Council at UzhNU
A meeting of the project manager Zhanna Sevastyanova and a consultant Rod Bolitho with the tutors and lecturers representing the university faculties, where teaching is also done in English, took place during the visit of the British Council in Ukraine representatives to UzhNU.
Vice-rector for academic policy and research Myroslava Lendel said that cooperation with the British Council was vital for UzhNU, as "our joint work is really effective and we see its positive outcome for our teachers."
The project manager Zhanna Sevestyanova said: "The aim of our project is to improve English proficiency among students and teachers. It is important for research, conferences and international cooperation. The target groups of our project are the teachers who have thorough knowledge of their subject but want to improve their command of English to be able to teach in this language freely. We also work with the English philologists who teach English to students of other specialities."
Project consultant Rod Bolitho noted that the programme was popular among Ukrainian universities and UzhNU was the 14th to join it. He also noted that the universities were interested in international programmes and the opportunities provided by the British Counclil, including Tempus and Erasmus: «Education is getting internationalized. Teachers and students have a strong desire to be involved in the world’s educational and academic environment. Learning English is an important step in this direction."
Implementation of the project of cooperation between the British Council and UzhNU started in April 2016. A survey of teachers and students of UzhNU was conducted, 37 teachers were tested, 16 teachers participated in training programmes organized by the British Council and on returning home, shared their experience with the colleagues working at the faculties and departments involved in the project.
