Joint meeting of Academic Council and Labour Staff Conference of UzhNU
A joint meeting of the Academic Council and the Labour Staff Conference of Uzhhorod National University was held in a`large hall of the administrative building of the university. The meeting was attended by the university Rector Volodymyr Smolanka, Vice-rectors, members of the Academic Council and representatives of the faculties. 303 out of 400 delegates were present.
The conference began with the performance by the vocal studio «Solo mio» whose members sang a few Christmas carols. Then, the Rector of UzhNU, Professor Volodymyr Smolanka awarded several university employees with honorary diplomas and letters of gratitude.
After the official ceremony, the participants of the conference started work according to the agenda. Firstly, they listened to Rector’s report, which highlighted last year’s activity of the university. Volodymyr Smolanka reported on personnel provision, educational, scientific, research and international activity, moral building activities and student government. Another very important section of his report was dedicated to financial, administrative and economic activity of university.
"Summing up the results of the past year, we should mention the opening of a new faculty - Medical faculty №2, where the teaching is done in a foreign language. We have made a conclusion that the decision to create it was reasoned, balanced and correct. We meet a lot of difficulties on our way, but thanks to the coordinated work of the administration, the Medical faculty and the university staff, we successfully overcome them. We always feel support from the administration and personally the Rector. Recently, the equipment for a modern computer lab has been purchased and classrooms have been equipped for practical training of students,"- said the dean of the Medical faculty №2 Vasyl Kaliy.
The chair of the Board of Young Scientists Tetiana Malachowska said that the scientific potential of the university had increased significantly lately. Students of UzhNU annually obtain international grants, and in 2016 they won the grant of the President of Ukraine.
The Labour Staff Conference also elected new members of the Academic Council of UzhNU including teachers and students, considered the changes to and voted for the draft Statute in a new edition.
After the meeting, Volodymyr Smolanka and Vice-rectors held a press conference, where they told about the plans of the universuty for the new year and answered numerous journalists’ questions.
