Hanna Melehanych has become a UNDP Ukraine leader for tolerance promotion in the Transcarpathian region

A strategic session for the regional leaders for tolerance promotion of UNDP Ukraine took place in Kyiv on April 20, 2019.

The event was attended by about 40 leaders for tolerance promotion of UNDP Ukraine from  20 regions of Ukraine, who had been selected to promote tolerance, mutual understanding, non-violence, and respect for human rights. The Transcarpathian region was represented by Hanna Melehanych, Associate Professor of the Department of International Studies and Public Communications of the Faculty of History and International Relations, and the director of the Resource Center for Sustainable Development of UzhNU. UNDP Tolerance Envoys  and UNDP representatives also joined the training.

During the event, the UNDP Envoys spoke about the campaign and their role in promoting mutual respect, they also familiarized themselves with the activities of UNDP in the field of human rights protection. The regional leaders for tolerance promotion discussed the main types of discrimination and cases of intolerance and non-compliance with human rights in different regions of Ukraine and how it could be changed. The newly elected leaders worked on formulating the mission, values, and goals of the activities of the regional leaders for tolerance promotion and UNDP Tolerance Envoys.

The communication campaign on tolerance promotion in Ukrainian society, which was initiated by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Ukraine confirmed the need to establish dialogue between various social groups on urgent and sometimes challenging issues.

Since 2017, 12 well-known Ukrainians have become UNDP Tolerance Envoys, raising awareness of the issue of equality in Ukraine, not only within conventions, not only in human rights protection, but also in other areas of life, such as music, the environment, the media, theatre, sports, art and literature.
