Erasmus+ 2025–2026: New Opportunities for Academic Mobility and International Experience for UzhNU Students

Erasmus+ 2025–2026: New Opportunities for Academic Mobility and International Experience for UzhNU Students

In 2025, Uzhhorod National University continued its active participation in the Erasmus+ academic mobility program, strengthening international partnerships and expanding opportunities for students from various faculties. A total of 89 students took advantage of semester-long credit mobility supported by the European Commission, while around 40 additional participants joined other Erasmus+ mobility formats. The year 2026 has only just begun, yet 33 UzhNU students have already been sent to partner universities within the Erasmus+ academic mobility framework.

Despite the challenges of wartime, the university continues to integrate into the European educational space, providing young people with access to quality education, research opportunities, and intercultural experience.

Over the past year, UzhNU students studied and completed internships at universities in Romania, Croatia, Poland, Slovakia, and other European Union countries. The largest number of participants traditionally chose Romanian higher education institutions, particularly universities in Pitești and Bucharest. Cooperation with universities in Croatia and Central European countries also remained active.

The Faculty of Foreign Philology remains the “absolute champion” in semester academic mobility participation. Students from the Faculty of Philology, the Faculty of Economics, the Faculty of International Economic Relations, and the Faculty of History and International Relations also frequently took part in the program. At the same time, representatives of other academic programs joined the initiative as well, demonstrating the systematic nature of the university’s international activity and the growing interest among students in gaining educational experience abroad.

Vasyl Tsap, a fourth-year student of the Faculty of International Economic Relations, studied under the Erasmus+ program at the University of Zagreb. He notes that the learning process took place in English, which significantly improved his professional communication skills. The flexible class schedule allowed him to focus on key disciplines and study the material more deeply. Scholarship support also provided an opportunity to explore European countries and cultures. During his mobility period, he visited several European cities, broadening his worldview and professional network. According to him, participation in the program became an important stage in his personal development and strengthened his confidence in his own abilities.

Students of the Faculty of Economics, Oleksandra Rad and Diana Keshkentyi, studied at the Romanian-American University in Bucharest and also completed an internship at the Erasmus Office of the host university. In addition to their academic studies, they joined the work of the international office team, contributing to the preparation of digital materials for the official website, newsletters, and social media. This experience helped them develop digital competencies, improve communication skills, and understand the responsibility of working in an international environment. The students emphasize that studying at a European university significantly improved their foreign language proficiency and expanded their professional horizons.

For Andrii Lesyshyn, a third-year student of the Faculty of Biology, mobility in Pitești, Romania, became his second Erasmus+ experience. This time, his stay abroad had a strong research component. He joined a research project studying genetic mutations caused by extracts of certain horsetail species, working within a team of international specialists. Conducting experiments in English, integrating into the scientific environment, and presenting research results became an important contribution to his professional development. The student notes that the mobility program provides an opportunity not only to gain new knowledge but also to develop responsibility, independence, and openness to change.

The results of the 2025–2026 academic year confirm that Erasmus+ for students of Uzhhorod National University is not merely an educational program but an important tool for shaping competitive European-level professionals. Academic mobility strengthens the university’s international connections, promotes scientific cooperation, and supports the integration of Ukrainian education into the common European space.

UzhNU will continue expanding opportunities for participation in international programs, supporting students’ aspirations for knowledge, professional development, and the достой representation of Ukraine on the global academic stage.
