Contribution of UzhNU team to the victory

Contribution of UzhNU team to the victory

…Sunday. February 27. Around 2 p.m. After editing video for TV and a church service with a prayer for Ukraine and a memorial service for the killed soldiers and civilians, I am running to the "heart" of UzhNU - the building of the university administration. It's not just crowded here. Dozens of teachers, students, residents of Uzhhorod and refugees are working here shoulder-to-shoulder. Everyone is "at war". After all, it’s their small contribution to the great victory over the invader. Most people are weaving a camouflage net. However, they are busy doing some other things too. Let me continue the story with the language of comments and photos…

Myroslava Lendel, Vice-Rector of Uzhhorod National University for Academic Policy and Research: “On the first day of the war, Uzhhorod National University self-organized by using its trump card – the Association of Volunteers of Uzhhorod National University. This is an informal network of our employees, students, teachers, who self-organize to meet today's challenges. Compared to Russians, we are strong because we are able to self-organize and take non-standard decisions. We solve the problems as they arise. I think we have found our own niche among many similar volunteer organizations. We help refugees with accommodation in the university dormitories, we provide assistance to our soldiers from the 128th brigade. We also had to coordinate the temporary relocation of foreign students from the East and North of Ukraine who were trying to leave the war zone. There is no hierarchy in our organization. If there is some task, we publish the information in the networks. And we are amazed at how many of our students, teachers, university staff in general, and residents of Uzhhorod are ready to help. That is, we collect things for the refugees who are staying in our dormitories. We collect the necessary things for the military, and we also help our foreign students who want to leave Ukraine. These are three directions of our work, our strength, creativity and unity."

Hanna Melehanych, Associate Professor of the Department of International Studies and Public Communications of Uzhhorod National University, Director of the Center for Sustainable Development of Uzhhorod National University, a member of the Association of Volunteers of Uzhhorod National University: “We have just finished a camouflage net. We have been weaving it for 13 hours. All day on Saturday and half a day on Sunday. In total, we involve over 100 people, including 20-30 weaving the nets. 4-5 cut the fabric and clothes of the appropriate color, the rest weave. They brought the material themselves. But it turned out that this was just a drop in the ocean. We started looking for more. We go to the meetings with the participation of the deputy mayor. City headquarters, volunteers… We keep in touch with everyone. The first net was provided by the Transcarpathian Military Support Movement. The second by the Volunteers of Transcarpathia. Everyone is in a positive mood, because we can both be helpful and get away from the terrible reality. We turned on patriotic songs and sang along. We are brought cookies and sandwiches. Therefore, it saves time for lunch. Students, teachers and children, residents of the city, refugies start joining us too. In general, this is an initiative of Uzhhorod National University. We are responding to today's requests."

Olha Hvozdyak, Professor of the Department of German Philology: "Now, I think that our people are united, strong, I am impressed how quickly they managed to unite in such a life situation. And that's why the victory is ours. A special bow to our soldiers for their heroism in defending us! ”

Olesya Barchan, Associate Professor of the Department of Journalism: “If we want to win, everyone has to roll up their sleeves and get to work. Today I saw here that we would win."

Anzhelika Karbovanets, a third-year student at the Faculty of Dentistry: “What is good here? You don't sit at home, you don't panic. You take matters into your own hands and help your country to stand on its own two feet. We are contributing to history."
