Celebrating the anniversary of Carpatho-Ukraine at UzhNU

It has already become a good tradition in the city of Uzhhorod and the Transcarpathian region to celebrate the anniversary of the proclamation of the independence of Carpatho-Ukraine on March 15. Every year students of Uzhhorod National University take part in various events dedicated to the proclamation of its independence. This year from the very morning, students of the Natural Sciences and Humanities College joined the celebrations, and together with civil servants, public activists and residents of the city paid tribute to the memory of the Hero of Ukraine, the President of Carpatho-Ukraine Avgustyn Voloshyn by laying flowers to his monument.

As part of the celebration of the anniversary of Carpatho-Ukraine, students of UzhNU college traveled to Krasne Pole, the place where the most fierce battles with the Hungarian occupants took place on March 15, 1939. “Moreover, lectures on the formation and significance of Carpatho-Ukraine for the national state-building in the twentieth century were delivered for students of all faculties," said Ihor Korol, the Vice-rector for academic policy and research.

In particular, one of the most authoritative researchers of Carpatho-Ukraine period in history, the head of the Department of Political Science and Public Administration, Professor Mykola Vehesh, delivered a lecture in the main building of the university. He told students about extremely difficult foreign policy conditions for Carpatho-Ukraine in 1938-1939.

During the lecture, students watched a documentary about the formation of Ukrainian statehood beyond the Carpathians in the middle of the twentieth century. In general, a large number of Uzhhorod students took part in the events dedicated to Carpatho-Ukraine.
