Research-and-Development Department
The Research and Development department is a structural unit of the university that ensures the implementation of state policy in the field of scientific, scientific and technical, innovative activities and intellectual property.

The research center was established to support the scientific, scientific and technical activities of Uzhhorod National University and to obtain and use new competitive scientific results to ensure innovative development of society, high-quality training of specialists for relevant sectors of the economy, scientific and scientific-pedagogical staff of the highest qualification; solving complex problems in the field of scientific and technological development; implementation and use of scientific, scientific and practical results in Ukraine and on the world market.
Since its foundation, the university's research work has been managed by the vice-rectors for scientific work Vasyl Mykhailovych Kushko, Doctor of Medicine (1947-1949); Mykola Pavlovych Redko, Candidate of Philosophy (1950-1956); Vasyl Stepanovych Petrus, Candidate of Medicine (1959-1970); Stepan Maksymovych Kyshko, Candidate of D. (1970-1986); Volodymyr Slyvka, D.D.S. (1986-1988); Ivan Turyanytsia, D.D.S. (1989-1993); Julian Myronovych Vysoczansky, D.D.S. (1993-2005); and D. (1993-2005; 2012-2014); Igor Studeniak, PhD (2005-2012; 2014-2021); Volodymyr Feketa, PhD (2021-2022); Ivan Myroniuk, MD (2022-present).
The Research Department of the University was established in November 1993. It is the successor of the Research Department established in 1966. For four decades the Research Department was headed by G. P. Tolstova (1966-1978), Doctor of Economics P. Y. Studeniak (1978-1980), Doctor of Biology V. O. Khodak (1980-1983), Doctor of Physics and Mathematics V. V. Khymynets (1983-1988). Khymynets (1983-1988), PhD in physics and mathematics Y. M. D. Y. Vysoczansky (1988-1991), PhD M. Baran (1991-2013), PhD I. Grabova (2013-2019), K. Kovalchuk (2019-2024), and since 2024 PhD K. Skubenych. The structure of the research center itself has also changed, new units have been created in the course of time to effectively solve the tasks.

The main tasks of the Research and Development department in the field of scientific, scientific and technical activities are:
- Development of fundamental research in natural, humanitarian, psychological, pedagogical, socio-economic sciences with the aim of their further use for the development of priority areas of science and technology, social development and economic development of the country.
- Performing applied research and development for the purpose of efficient use and development of scientific potential, attracting additional funds to solve social and other problems of the industry.
- Research and development of theoretical and methodological foundations for the development of higher education, strengthening the influence of science on solving problems of education and upbringing, preservation and strengthening of the defining character of science in the development of society, culture, and economy.
- Assisting existing and creating new science schools.
- Taking measures to support the research of young scientists and gifted students, attracting them to scientific schools.
- Ensuring the training of qualified specialists, scientific and scientific-pedagogical staff of the highest qualification on the basis of the latest achievements of scientific and technological progress.
- Effective use of the scientific and scientific-technical potential of higher education to address the priority tasks of production renewal and socio-economic transformation.
- Development of new, progressive forms of scientific and technical cooperation with foreign and domestic centers of academic and industry science in order to jointly solve the most important scientific and technical problems, create high technologies and expand the use of scientific developments in industry.
- Development of innovative activities to create scientific and technical products and competitive samples of new equipment and materials oriented to the high-tech market.
- Promoting the protection of intellectual property and copyrights of researchers as a basis for strengthening and developing science and entering the global high-tech market.
- Modernization and renewal of the university's experimental and production facilities and their effective use.
- Organization of information and publishing activities, popularization of the achievements of higher education through the media and the Internet.
- Conducting market research of the scientific services market, patent and license work, marketing, information support and transfer of scientific and technical products in accordance with international standards.
- Developing and filling the content of higher education standards with the achievements of world science and technology.
The Research and Development department reports to the Vice-Rector for Research, who organizes, directs and controls its activities. The head of the research part is directly responsible for the research part. There are four departments within the research part:

Department of Organization and Implementation of Scientific Developments The department provides scientific and organizational support for the implementation of fundamental research and applied developments funded by the state budget and the implementation of economic contracts and clinical trials at the scientific level.
Department of Scientific and Technical Information The Department of Scientific and Technical Information is designed to receive, process, store, disseminate and use information obtained in the course of research work at the university.
Department of Patent and License Support and Commercialization The main purpose of the department is to promote the implementation of state policy in the field of intellectual property, innovation and patent information in the university system.
Department of Scientific Grant activities The main goal of the department is to provide a modern dynamic research and innovation environment by attracting additional extra-budgetary resources for the successful development of research, innovation, economic, social projects, as well as participation in national and international project competitions and programs.
The departments of the Research and Development department carry out their activities in accordance with the provisions approved by the rector that regulate the rights and obligations of the heads of these units.
