Volodymyr Smolanka has been awarded honorary title of Doctor Honoris Causa

On March 25-26th 2015, UzhNU delegation headed by the Rector Volodymyr Smolanka visited Vasile Goldis Western University of Arad (Romania). Uzhhorod scientists met with the representatives of the Romanian university, its President and founder Aurel Ardelean and Rector Coralia Adina Cotoraci.

At the solemn meeting of the Academic Council of Vasile Goldis Western University of Arad  Professor Volodymyr Smolanka was awarded the honorary title of Doctor Honoris Causa. The staff of the partner university praised the work and personality of Professor Volodymyr Smolanka as a renowned medical worker and experienced university professor, a research coordinator, highly skilled professional in the field of neurosurgery and Rector of the famous Ukrainian university.

The management of both universities discussed the implementation of joint projects realized with the involvement of EU funds, particularly, Hungary-Slovakia-Romania-Ukraine ENPI Cross-border Cooperation Programme and some other programs. Issues of organization and conduct of joint research activities were also discussed. It was planned to hold an international scientific and practical conference co-organized by both universities in June, 2015.

Professor Volodymyr Smolanka visited the Institute of Life Sciences which is the interdisciplinary research unit doing research in the field of experimental and applied biology, biotechnology, ecology/ecotoxicology and environmental protection.

In addition, the issues of innovative technologies implementation in education (including video conferences and webinars, distance e-learning system Moodle) were discussed at the meeting. It was agreed to exchange experience by means of organizing academic mobility of students and teachers within the program Erasmus +, in particular, in the fields of medicine, dentistry, biology, computer science and social sciences. Special attention was focused on strengthening research collaboration between the faculties, departments and individual researchers of both universities.

In conclusion, Vice-rector for International scientific relations, European projects and grants Anka Hermenian gave a conducted tour of some university buildings during which guests could familiarize themselves with the scientific centers and research laboratories. She also outlined possible areas of cooperation, taking into consideration the possibilities of both universities.
