UzhNU has entered the Interdisciplinary Science Rankings 2026 for the second time, achieving the highest score among Ukrainian universities in the category of organizational processes that promote cross-disciplinary collaboration (Processes)
ISR (Interdisciplinary Science Rankings) is an international university ranking system that evaluates the contribution of higher education institutions to interdisciplinary scientific research. Overall, this year the list includes 911 universities from 94 countries, which is 162 more than last year. Among them are 15 Ukrainian universities that hold leading positions, as well as 23 that received “reporter” status, meaning that the data they provided did not meet the criteria for inclusion in the ranking. The ranking takes into account three main factors: resources for interdisciplinary research (Inputs), organizational processes that foster collaboration across disciplines (Processes), and research outcomes (Outputs).
According to the ranking’s organizers, interdisciplinary science is the integration of knowledge, traditions, and processes from multiple scientific disciplines. Solving problems in this field may involve several researchers collaborating across different disciplines, or a single academic approach to a scientific question applied simultaneously in multiple directions. The ISR 2026 ranking considers data only from scientific fields that belong to high-level domains: computer science, engineering, life sciences, and physical sciences.
The top position in the Interdisciplinary Science Rankings 2026 is held by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, with a total score of 93.0. Stanford University ranks second with a score of 89.9. The top three is completed by the California Institute of Technology, which earned 89.2 points.
The leader among Ukrainian universities is Sumy State University, with a total score of 37.7–41.1, placing it in the 401–500 range worldwide. The next position is held by Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, ranked 501–600 with a score of 33.4–37.6. The list of national top performers is completed by six universities: Kyiv National University of Construction and Architecture, Lviv Polytechnic National University, Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute, Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, the National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine, and Yuri Kondratyuk National University of Poltava. These universities received scores of 24.4–33.3 and are ranked 601–800.
