Physicists of UzhNU visit Slovakia every spring

Students of the Department of Solid State Electronics and Information Security always look forward to the arrival of spring, because this is the season when they have the opportunity to visit Slovakia.

A trip to Kosice is a good opportunity to get acquainted with EU educational trends, neighboring nation culture and get to know each other in different communicative situations.

This year wasn’t an exception: the delegation of students and teachers visited several universities in Slovakia. The trip began with a visit to the Institute of Physics of the Faculty of Natural Sciences of the Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice, Institute of Experimental Physics and Institute of Materials Science of the Slovak Academy of Sciences. The development of science and technical supply impress and inspire to fulfill oneself and try something new. The delegation also visited the Botanical Garden of Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice to see the exhibition of cacti.

Presov was the next place to visit. Students of UzhNU familiarized themselves with the life of their peers abroad: they had the opportunity to live in a student hostel and eat in a university canteen. During the tour of a local university they talked to the dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Natural Sciences, head of the Department of Physics, Mathematics and Technology, who, by the way, offered Ukrainian students to continue their study in Slovakia, he also focused on a simplified admission system to Slovak universities for Ukrainians.

The conversation with an Honorary Professor of UzhNU Ivan Birchak was  especially interesting. He speaks Ukrainian, knows the history and geography Ukraine very well, he even taught at the Faculty of Physics of Odessa National Mechnikov University.

Slovaks are familiar with our scientists-physicists owing to continuous cooperation. They give high praise to Uzhhorod post-graduate students and, admit with smiles on their faces that the used to envy them...

UzhNU delegation also visited a Ukrainian gymnasium in Presov. Taras Shevchenko pedestal, Ukrainian symbols, lessons in Ukrainian impress when you see them abroad.

The planetarium also left an unforgettable impression. Exhibition of children's works, seeing the sun through a telescope, a film about the solar system transferred everyone to a mysterious and unidentified world. Everyone was delighted.

 We would like to express words of gratitude to Slovaks, especially Serhiy Ilkovych, for the hospitality and  wonderful days spent in this country.

Special thanks to the Head of the Department of Physics, Mathematics and Technology of Prešov University, Professor Volodymyr Shebenya and Head of the Department of Solid State Electronics and Information Security of UzhNU Professor Vasyl Rizak, who have actually been the initiators of cultural exchange between students and teachers for more than 20 years. It is truly a rewarding experience: these trips make the learning process more interesting and bring the staff together.
