International Winter School in Austria: How a Representative of the Faculty of Philology at UzhNU Participated in the Academic Program

From February 23–27, as part of the Erasmus+ program, an international winter school was held in Innsbruck, Austria, dedicated to the language, culture, and study of Ukraine, as well as the development of cooperation among European universities.

The aim of this project was to promote the development of Ukrainian studies at European universities and to create an international academic network of researchers on Ukraine.

The winter school was made possible primarily thanks to the initiative and efforts of Professor Jürgen Fuchsbauer from the Faculty of Philology and Cultural Studies at the University of Innsbruck.

The event brought together scholars and students who were genuinely interested in deepening their knowledge of Ukraine. Students from Palacký University in Olomouc, Paris-Lodron University in Salzburg, the University of Iceland, Jagiellonian University, and the University of Vienna participated in the program.

Uzhhorod National University also joined the collaboration. Viktoriia Tsendra, an assistant at the Department of English Philology, participated in organizing and conducting Ukrainian language courses for international students. The language component of the program was implemented with the support and coordination of Nataliia Sorokina—a Ukrainian language instructor at the University of Innsbruck and an expert in language teaching methodology.

The winter school program included not only intensive Ukrainian language study but also academic discussions, work in international groups, and a rich cultural program. Lectures on Ukrainian history and culture, various workshops, city tours, an introduction to the university environment, as well as a conference dedicated to issues of multilingualism and intercultural learning, made a strong impression on the participants and fostered active academic dialogue.

Participation in the winter school was a valuable experience for all participants, facilitated the exchange of knowledge and ideas, and strengthened academic ties between universities in different countries.
