Students of the Department of Military Training visited Chop Border Guard Detachment

On December 23rd, students of the Department of Military Training of Uzhhorod National University visited Uzhhorod Department of Border Guard Service of Ukraine. On this day, the students did not just gain theoretical knowledge but also learned about the work and service of the so called "green berets".

The day in the border guard detachment began with alignment, division of responsibilities between teachers and their assistants and dividing all the present into 5 groups. Generally, the border detachment was visited by about two hundred students of the first and the second years of study, trainings were conducted in five different locations and lasted for about 20 minutes each.

First, the students learned about the location and conditions of service of the Transcarpathian military unit from Lieutenant Colonel Ihor Yeskyn. Then, they were shown small arms and special tools. At this point of the overview programme, Lieutenant Colonel Andriy Motsa together with a representative of the State Border Guard Service told the students about handcuffs, flare pistols, gas cylinders, handguns and rifles and demonstrated how to use them.

At the next location the students got acquainted with communication facilities. Major Volodymyr Krashchenko told about the importance of proper equipment, described in detail the principles of work of radio stations (portable and stationary) and told about automated workstations.

The location of automotive vehicles and special equipment, guided by Major Andriy Melnyk, was also interesting for students. Here, everyone could get behind the wheel of a military vehicle, see its  equipment from the inside and also get acquainted  with alternative means of transportation.

 The future officers were also demonstrated visual observation devices. Major Oleh Anisimov told the students about thermal imager Archer, binoculars Bх8 and Bх12 and night observation device DVS-8. Each interested person had the opportunity to inspect and test any military observation device.

There was a debriefing at the end of the day. The Head of Department Colonel Vasyl Oliynyk said that almost all the students of the military training department were planning to become servicemen and defend the territory of our country. "The experience they got today is not just new knowledge and practical skills, but also the call of the heart", - said Mr. Oliynyk.

 This year the Department of Military Training significantly increased the number of students, held a series of educational and patriotic activities, and showed that enthusiasm and professionalism of the teaching staff were able to raise the academic process to a new level.
