National Contact Point "Horizon 2020" at UzhNU opens up opportunities for Ukrainian researchers

13 projects the consortium of which involves Ukrainian partners have been won as a result of the first wave of the contest "Horizon 2020" in Ukraine. This ambitious European programme is also a significant prospect for UzhNU researchers. Moreover, the National Contact Point of the programme is functioning at our university. It helps to determine the topic, select foreign partners and prepare a draft. Its specialists also consult on other issues.

Competitions are announced regularly, every time on different subjects within a certain priority direction. More detailed information about them is available on the European website of the programme (section "Calls for Proposals"), and also information on two subject areas including "Health" and "Food Security" can be found on the NCP at UzhNU website. For example, currently there are 32 relevant announcements of open competitions for all priorities. Most of them are relevant to Ukrainian researchers and organizations.

Small and medium enterprises, non-profit organizations, associations, research or scientific and production centers, universities and others can become participants of the programme. Not only teams but also individual researchers can participate in the competition. In particular, scientists can submit their own research projects, if it takes ERC competitions, or be involved as experts in other types of projects.

For effective participation of Ukrainians in "Horizon 2020" competitions the Ministry of Education of Ukraine has established a network of national contact points following the example of European counterparts, which are designed to provide information about the programme and help Ukrainian researchers and organizations in submitting projects. Thus, one of the national contact points was established at Uzhhorod National University (the manager is Taisiya Symochko). It works in such directions as "Health, demographic change and well-being" and "Food security, sustainable agriculture, marine research and the bioeconomy"; it also advises on all general questions regarding participation in the "Horizon 2020" programme.
