STEMLAB SYNERGY: FORMATION OF FUTURE SKILLS IN UKRAINIAN AND ROMANIAN SCHOOLS

Project name: STEMLab Synergy: formation of future skills in Ukrainian and Romanian schools, ROUA00153
Project goal:
The cross-border project is implemented within the framework of the Interreg NEXT Romania-Ukraine 2021-2027 Programme. The Interreg VI-A NEXT Romania-Ukraine 2021-2027 Programme is financed by the European Union and co-financed by the countries participating in the Programme (www.ro-ua.net).
The overall objective of the project is to enhance the quality and relevance of STEM education in secondary schools across the targeted cross-border region. By upgrading educational equipment, introducing innovative teaching methods, and fostering cross-border cooperation, the project aims to bridge the gap between education and the labour market. The expected change is a more engaged student population, better-equipped teachers, and a curriculum that aligns with contemporary market needs, ultimately leading to improved employability and regional development.
Project description:
STEMLab Synergy is a comprehensive approach that combines the development of educational infrastructure (equipment of STEM laboratories), advanced training (teacher training), and community engagement (competitions and information campaign). An innovative solution is to transform the State Higher Educational Institution "Uzhhorod National University" into a STEM hub for secondary education by placing 4 laboratories at the university. This approach will provide 22 local schools with wider access to practical classes and laboratory work in these laboratories on an agreed schedule. Another important component is the fight against negative perceptions and stereotypes, including gender, regarding STEM education, through an information campaign about career opportunities, career guidance activities, STEM competitions, and a camp for students. STEMLab Synergy stands out for its holistic and integrative approach. It is not just about teaching STEM disciplines, it is about integrating these disciplines into life through empirical educational experience. The project’s uniqueness lies in its cross-border collaboration, creating a next-generation educational ecosystem that cultivates environmental awareness and promotes sustainable practices. It is an initiative that not only meets current educational needs, but also anticipates and shapes the future.
