Priority areas of scientific activity of the Institute today:

- study of the specifics of interaction between the onomastikon of the state-creating nation and the onomastikons of national minorities in independent Ukraine; 

- history of the Ukrainian language, revival of the names of Ukrainian linguists banned by the totalitarian regime, evolution of stylistic and genre varieties of the Ukrainian literary language;

- sociolinguistic parameters of the development and functioning of the Ukrainian language, including minority policy and disintegration threats to the unity of the Ukrainian language space;

- Ukrainian language and culture in the countries of Central Europe and the Balkan Peninsula.

In each of these areas, L. Beley has a considerable body of work: comprehensive monographs, dictionaries, scientific and journalistic articles that have been widely recognized both in Ukraine and abroad. The M. Molnár Research Institute of Ukrainian Studies under the direction of L. Beley published a number of works from the private library of the prominent Slovak Ukrainian scholar Mykhailo Molnár (4.11.1930 - 26.10.2006) in the scientific series "Ucrainica: ad fontеs" ("Ukrainian Studies: to the Sources"), founded in 2008, in cooperation with the Uzhhorod private publishing house "Grazhda". Ukrainian historical linguistics was enriched with little-known or rare in Ukraine studies by M. Molnar himself, works by historian, statesman and public figure D. Doroshenko, Slavic linguist and historian of Ukrainian literature Y. Shevelov, writer and literary critic Y. Malaniuk, publicist A. Zhyvotko, and others. 

The book of works by Y. Shevelev "Outline of the Modern Ukrainian Literary Language and Other Linguistic Studies (1947-1953)", prepared at the Molnar Research Institute of Ukrainian Studies, won the All-Ukrainian rating "Book-2012" in the nomination "Humanities".

Together with the Tempora publishing house, an electronic version of rare Ukrainian publications from M. Molnar's book collection, the Mykhailo Molnar Foundation, was prepared, which can be found on the university library's website.

Significant work was carried out by the researchers, and scientific works reflecting the culture of Ukrainians in the Western diaspora and active processes in the field of Ukrainian onomastics in the context of the independence of the Ukrainian state were published:
