Lawyers of UzhNU conducted a large-scale conference on comparative jurisprudence and established cooperation with the Japanese university

An International Scientific Conference "Modern Issues of Comparative Jurisprudence" was held from the 6th to the 8th of May in UzhNU and brought together over 70 participants from different regions of Ukraine, the USA, Japan, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia, Moldova, Uzbekistan and Belarus.
On the third day of the conference a memorandum of cooperation between the Faculty of Law of UzhNU and Waseda University (Japan) was signed.
The signing ceremony was attended by the Rector of UzhNU Volodymyr Smolanka, Vice Rector of UzhNU Myroslava Lendel, the Dean of the Faculty of Law Yaroslav Lazur, Doctor of Law Mykhaylo Savchyn, the Dean of the Faculty of Law of Waseda University Yoshike Kurumisava and Professor of the University of Budapest Csaba Varga.
The memorandum refers to the educational and scientific cooperation, including a series of online lectures to be delivered by the scholars of the Japanese university. The Faculty of Law is also planning to participate in important grant projects, in particular, to develop research on comparative jurisprudence.
"Since law is becoming global and differences between legal systems disappear, the experience of foreign legal relationships can be a good impetus for the development of legal education in Transcarpathia. Comparative jurisprudence plays an important role in our education system and the geographical location of our region and the scientific potential of the Faculty of Law are favourable factors.
Previously our scientific contacts were limited by cooperation only with the neighbouring countries such as Hungary, Slovakia, Romania and Poland, today we have established cooperation with Austria and Japan", - said the Dean of the Faculty of Law Yaroslav Lazur.
International Scientific Conference was held under the auspices of the V.M.Koretsky Institute of State and Law of the NAS of Ukraine, Ukrainian Association of Comparative Jurisprudence and UzhNU. Our university was represented by the newly created unit - Research Institute of Comparative Public Law and International Law headed by the Doctor of Law, Advisor to the Chairperson of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine (2008-2010) Mykhaylo Savchyn. He moderated a plenary session that was held on the first day of the conference.
Welcoming speech was given by the Dean of the Faculty of Law of Uzhhorod National University Yaroslav Lazur. Vice Rector of UzhNU Oleksandr Rohach welcomed the participants on behalf of the Rector. "The issues discussed at the conference are close to UzhNU. We have created Educational and Research Institute which will also deal with the issues of comparative law. Therefore, the discussion and the conference will be a logical result of years of work, which has been carried out at UzhNU,” said the Vice Rector.
Transcarpathia gives a new impetus to comparative jurisprudence, says senior scientific officer of V.M. Koretsky Institute of State and Law of the NAS of Ukraine Oleksiy Kresin. The scientist calls our region a comparative one in its essence, since it consists of a number of religious communities able to coexist peacefully as it should be in other regions of Ukraine.
"I am very much pleased that we have finally gathered in Transcarpathia because the names of Transcarpathian scholars in the field of comparative law are known far beyond the borders of the region. The journal "Comparative and Analytical Law" is published in UzhNU. A Research Institute of Comparative Law is being created nowadays," said Oleksiy Kresin. He also presented several books on jurisprudence to UzhNU.
The Dean of the Faculty of Law of Waseda University Yoshike Kurumisava knows Professor Oleksiy Kresin and participated in the conference on his invitation. A guest from Japan presented his report on comparative law in terms of universality and the contents of law. Mr. Kurumisava has his own ideas regarding the development of Ukraine, as this is one of the states that became independent after the collapse of the Soviet Union. He offers to use comparative law and take advantage of legal assistance provided by European countries, to create a market system in combination with appropriate legal processes. Legislation should be combined with sociology: it should be followed how law is perceived by society.
The conference has been attended by the Rector of the National School of Judges of Ukraine Mykola Onishchuk. He has stresses that it has always been a professional and personal pleasure for him to come to Transcarpathia. "It is logical and correct that the international conference on the issues of comparative jurisprudence is held in UzhNU at the Faculty of Law. This is what currently distinguishes Transcarpathian law school from other schools of Ukraine. The comparative component of jurisprudence is much more developed here than anywhere else.
When we received the invitation to participate in this conference, we gladly responded knowing that we would meet scientists from European countries there and participate in the discussion of important issues of the rule of law ", said Mykola Onishchuk. At the conference, he delivered a report on the issues of reforming the system of justice in the context of European standards.
