On 29 October 2026, the scientific and practical conference “Microbiome-Associated Pathology” will be held in Uzhhorod, and researchers and physicians of Uzhhorod University occupy an important place in its scientific programme.

The event will bring together specialists in microbiology, gastroenterology, immunology, cardiology, paediatrics, dietetics and personalised medicine. Participants will discuss contemporary understanding of the role of the microbiome in the development of systemic inflammation, metabolic and gastroenterological disorders, cardiovascular diseases, PTSD and other common pathological conditions.

Uzhhorod University will be represented at the conference by:

Nadiia Boiko — Doctor of Biological Sciences, Professor, Head of the Department of Medico-Biological Disciplines of UzhNU. The professor will moderate two scientific and educational symposia and present reports devoted to new directions in microbiome-associated medicine, the relationship of PTSD with the microbiome and immunometabolic disorders, and the mechanisms of evidence-based action of modern enterosorbents.

Svitlana Burmei — Doctor of Philosophy in specialty 091 “Biology and Biochemistry”, research officer, associate professor of the Department of Medico-Biological Disciplines of UzhNU. She will speak as a co-presenter of the topic “PTSD beyond psychiatry: microbiome, immunometabolic disorders and new prospects for personalised medicine”, and will also moderate a symposium devoted to current news in the field of microbiome-associated medicine.

Yelyzaveta Sirchak — Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor, Head of the Department of Propaedeutics of Internal Diseases of UzhNU. The researcher will moderate a symposium devoted to the prevention and treatment of “diseases of civilisation” and will present reports on the role of the microbiome in the formation of metabolically associated diseases, the possibilities of correcting folate cycle disorders through the “gut — brain” axis, and irritable bowel syndrome in the light of the Rome V criteria.

Taras Chendei — Candidate of Medical Sciences, associate professor of the Department of Hospital Therapy of UzhNU, medical director of the Transcarpathian Regional Clinical Centre of Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery. His report will be devoted to the intestinal microbiome in acute coronary syndrome — from the results of scientific research to possible clinical prospects.

Olha Pushkarenko — Candidate of Medical Sciences, associate professor of the Department of Paediatrics with Childhood Infectious Diseases of the Faculty of Medicine of UzhNU, paediatrician, radiologist and ultrasound diagnostics physician. She will present the topic “Microbiota and the child’s metabolic health: from population risk to individual prevention”.

The participation of UzhNU representatives in the conference demonstrates the interdisciplinary character of the university’s research and the practical implementation of modern knowledge about the microbiome in various fields of medicine — from fundamental biology and immunology to gastroenterology, cardiology and paediatrics.

The conference will be held on 29 October 2026 in the ILKO gallery at the address: Uzhhorod, 28 Koshytska St.. In-person and online participation is available for attendees.
