Statement on the Occasion of the Establishment of Uzhhorod University
Dear students, lecturers, researchers, staff and partners of Uzhhorod University!
Today we are opening a new page in the history of our university and of all higher education in Zakarpattia and Ukraine. The start of functioning of the reformed Uzhhorod University is not merely an organisational change or a formal pooling of resources. It is the practical implementation of the approach initiated by state bodies to reforming higher education in Ukraine and bringing it closer to European standards. It is a strategic step into the future, the creation of a significantly more powerful, more modern and more competitive institution of higher education.
We live and work in times of extraordinary trials. The full-scale war has fundamentally changed the country's priorities, setting new, extremely difficult tasks before education and science. Today's world requires higher education institutions not merely to adapt, but to be able to respond quickly and effectively to the challenges of our time. The united and renewed UzhNU is becoming precisely a centre of resilience, innovation and development.
What does the reformed university mean for each of us?
Greater research and educational potential: the synergy of our faculties, departmental teams, research laboratories and material and technical facilities makes it possible to reach a qualitatively new level of teaching and research development.
Expanded opportunities for students: our students gain access to interdisciplinary study programmes, modern equipment, expanded academic mobility programmes and new practical platforms.
A contribution to the reconstruction and economy of Ukraine: the renewed university focuses on training the specialists that post-war Ukraine critically needs — from physicians, engineers and IT specialists to psychologists, teachers, lawyers and economists. We are shaping human capital that will serve as the driving force behind our country’s recovery.
Global integration: in a rapidly changing world, UzhNU is strengthening its position as a reliable international partner. Our geographical location and European integration vector allow us to be an effective bridge between Ukrainian science and the European educational space.
Reform is always a challenge, but at the same time a unique window of opportunity. We preserve and honour the best traditions that have been formed over decades, but we are boldly implementing new standards for management, transparency, and educational quality.
I would like to express my gratitude to every faculty member, researcher, staff member, and student for their support, professionalism, and faith in our shared cause. Special thanks go to our defenders—both men and women—whose courage makes it possible for us to teach, learn, and advance Ukrainian education in pursuit of our shared Victory.
Together we are building the university of the future — strong, modern and open to the world!
