UzhNU joins the initiative "Europe of the Carpathians" as a result of the meeting in the Polish Sejm
UzhNU delegation headed by the Rector Professor Volodymyr Smolanka paid a working visit to Warsaw. The meeting with the Polish party took place in Warsaw in the the Sejm of the Polish Republic.
The development and submission of the project "Open University of the Carpathian Region" together with the University of Rzeszow was discussed at the meeting. The idea of the project is to create modern facilities at Uzhhorod National University and the University of Rzeszow to be used as a venue for international conferences, exhibitions, lectures and distance learning.
The parties also discussed cooperation with the countries of the Carpathian region in the framework of international and interregional cooperation initiative "Europe of the Carpathians" launched by the Polish Sejm member, Vice-Speaker of the Sejm Mr. Marek Kuchinski and supported by parliamentary and regional leaders of Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Serbia and Ukraine. There is the possibility of opening the secretariat of the initiative "Europe of the Carpathians" at UzhNU for greater involvement of the Transcarpathian region and holding international conferences and meetings in Uzhhorod.
They also discussed preparation of the section on cooperation between the universities of the Carpathian region at the conference which will be held on September 9, 2015 in Krynica Poland.
According to the signed agreement, Uzhhorod National University will participate in strengthening cooperation between student organizations of the Carpathian region and support the creation of the Student Parliament of the Carpathian region.
The possibility of participation in international research consortia involving the best universities of Poland, such as Warsaw Agricultural University, Jagiellonian University in Krakow and others was also discussed.
As a result of this meeting it was planned to hold consultations with the leadership of Podkarpackie Voivodeship and the University of Rzeszow in Poland in late April or early May, 2015.
Rector of UzhNU, Doctor of Medicine, Professor Volodymyr Smolanka commented: "The initiative "Europe of the Carpathians " sponsored by the Vice-Speaker of the Sejm Marek Kuchinski and cooperation with Polish universities are particularly interesting for UzhNU because they give us the opportunity to participate in international programs, such as Poland-Belarus-Ukraine, cooperation within the Visegrad Group,etc. As part of the initiative we have proposed a number of ideas concerning the establishment and operation of the Open Carpathian University, Interstate Youth Parliament for the future leaders of the countries."

Mr. Marek Kuchinski helped us to get an appointment with the rector of the University of Rzeszow and the leaders of Podkarpackie Voivodeship to discuss specific cooperation projects between our universities and coordinate further joint intentions and actions", says Professor Volodymyr Smolanka.
