On 30 September 2026, the British publication Times Higher Education released the results of the World University Rankings 2027, one of the world's most authoritative university rankings. This year, it evaluated 2,297 higher education institutions from 118 countries. The ranking was topped by the University of Oxford, which has held first place for the eleventh consecutive year. Second place went to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, which trailed the leader by only 0.1 points. The compilers of the ranking note a marked strengthening of Asian universities: for the first time in history, three institutions from Asia entered the world's top fifteen. Universities are assessed in five areas: teaching, research environment, research quality, international openness, and collaboration with industry.
Uzhhorod University has traditionally been included in this prestigious list. It is one of 25 Ukrainian higher education institutions that made it into the ranking. The highest position among Ukrainian institutions was shared by I. Ya. Horbachevskyi Ternopil National Medical University and Sumy State University. Competition grows every year: new universities are added to the ranking, and this year the compilers introduced a more detailed system of groups. Therefore, the stable presence of UzhNU among the world's best universities is strong confirmation of its international recognition. THE data also indicate a favourable educational environment at the university. There are fewer than 13 students per lecturer here, and in total, as of 2025, the data for which served as the basis for the ranking, more than 15 thousand students were enrolled, including foreigners. In addition, UzhNU is represented in THE subject rankings in the areas of "Medicine and Health" and "Physical Sciences".
The presence of Uzhhorod University in the most prestigious international rankings is the result of the joint work of lecturers, researchers, and students. It attests to the high quality of education and research. Even in a difficult time for the country, UzhNU is confidently developing, strengthening international cooperation, and asserting the position of Zakarpattia on the educational map of the world.
