Recently, the influential British agency and publication Times Higher Education published the University Impact Rankings 2024. Its purpose is to analyse the impact of higher education on the development of society and the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The ranking takes into account the achievements of universities in fulfilling each of the 17 goals, and also forms a general list of University Impact Rankings.

In 2024, Uzhhorod National University has a total score of 822.2 points, in 2023 - 774, thus improving by 48 points. UzhNU has also seen a significant increase in some of the sustainable development goals. For example, Goal 4 "Quality Education" has increased by +22.3 points, Goal 16 "Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions" by +12.3 points, and Goal 17 "Partnership for Sustainable Development" by +15.6 points. In general, according to the ranking, UzhNU ranks 4-15 among the Ukrainian universities that participated in the ranking.

Over the past year, the ranking has been significantly expanded with new universities, their number has increased from 1591 to 2152 universities from 125 countries, and the number of Ukrainian universities has also increased from 33 to 42.

The University Impact Rankings methodology is based on the analysis of universities' activities to achieve sustainable development goals, including analysis and measurement of research in the field of sustainable development, socially oriented university programmes, university impact on society, resource management, partnerships, etc. These initiatives, practices and best practices require disclosure, documentation and are evaluated according to a set of criteria.

According to the organisers, the impact rankings are very popular, significant and dynamic, as more and more leading universities demonstrate their efforts to achieve the sustainability goals by introducing new clear policies or providing evidence of their progress.
