SDG 2. Zero Hunger: UzhNU Progress in 2025

In 2025, UzhNU worked towards SDG 2 in three areas: research for sustainable agricultural production, training health professionals in the fundamentals of healthy nutrition, and food and material support for people affected by the war. The University joined the new Erasmus+ project SAFER on climate-smart agriculture.

Research
• Early-career researchers are carrying out the state-funded project “Organic-Mineral Composites Based on Biochar and Heterocyclic Salts as Innovative Agrochemicals” (led by M. Kut, PhD in Chemistry), which continues into 2026.
• Under the SAIA programme, research in Slovakia studied biostimulants based on quinazoline and thienopyrimidine derivatives that combine crop yield with environmental safety.
Education
• The SAFER project modernises agricultural pedagogy: training students and practitioners in sustainable farming practices, digital learning materials and international cooperation in climate-smart agriculture (coordinator: T. Buturlakina).
• The Erasmus+ project “Teaching the basics of healthy nutrition in the training of health professionals” (2024-1-IE02-KA220-HED-000244217) is developing a nutrition handbook and a micro-credential for teaching staff. On 4 July 2025, an expert Think Tank with specialists from the Ministry of Health of Ukraine and the Zakarpattia Regional Centre for Disease Control and Prevention discussed the training of nutrition specialists in Ukraine.
• UzhNU trains specialists in Agronomy, Forestry, and Hotel and Restaurant Business and Catering (2025 admissions).
Community support
• Together with international partners, the UzhNU Volunteer Office delivered more than 15 tonnes of aid; part of it was distributed among IDPs and in war-damaged regions.
• IDPs in the dormitories have free access to kitchens refurbished with the help of charitable foundations; residents received gas stoves and refrigerators.
• In December 2025, students and staff collected gifts, clothing and donations for children’s homes in Zakarpattia.
On 23 May 2025, the Faculty of Biology hosted a meeting with the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China on agricultural development, with participation from the government, international organisations and researchers.
