Pro-Rector Ivan Myroniuk presented Uzhhorod University at the conference on quality of medical education

Pro-Rector for Research of Uzhhorod University Ivan Myroniuk took part in a panel discussion on international standards of quality of medical education. The discussion took place on 1 October within the framework of the research and practice conference "Current Issues of the Quality of Medical Education" in Ivano-Frankivsk.

The topic of the panel discussion was "Medical Education of Ukraine in the Global Space: Do We Need Accreditation According to WFME Standards?". The participants discussed what significance international accreditation may have for Ukrainian universities, students and graduates, and whether it is capable of influencing a real improvement in the quality of medical education.

The discussion was moderated by the Head of the National Agency for Higher Education Quality Assurance, Nataliia Stukalo. Together with Ivan Myroniuk, the discussion was joined by the rectors of Ivano-Frankivsk National Medical University, Roman Yatsyshyn, and of Bogomolets National Medical University, Yurii Kuchyn, the director of the Educational and Scientific Medical Institute of Sumy State University, Andrii Loboda, and the representative of Kyiv Medical University, Olena Soleiko.

The participants discussed, in particular, whether international accreditation can become not only an instrument of international recognition but also a mechanism for the real improvement of the educational process — from the content of educational programmes and clinical training to the assessment of learning outcomes and the development of an internal culture of quality.

Particular attention during the discussion was given to issues of international mobility of graduates, the resources necessary for obtaining and maintaining international accreditation, as well as possible models of cooperation between Ukrainian and foreign accreditation agencies.

Also during the conference, the participants discussed approaches to measuring the quality of medical education and the prospects for the development of professional pre-higher medical education in Ukraine.
