Researchers of the Faculty of Mathematics and Digital Technologies of UzhNU have received funding within the international programme Centers of Excellence in Ukraine

The attraction of international funding by researchers of the Faculty of Mathematics and Digital Technologies of Uzhhorod University became pleasant news. The team of researchers of the Department of Systems Analysis and Optimization Theory, headed by Candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences Andrii Serhiiovych Voshchepynets, received financial support for the implementation of a scientific project within the international programme Centers of Excellence in Ukraine, which is implemented with the support of the Simons Foundation (SF) and Simons Foundation International (SFI).

The project Center for Advanced Particle and Space Physics (CAPSP) will be implemented in cooperation with the main applicant - Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. The aim of the project is to create an interdisciplinary research centre in Ukraine, whose activities will focus on the study of the processes of energy transfer, transformation and dissipation in magnetized plasma systems. The research will cover a wide range of physical media - from the solar corona and the inner heliosphere to planetary magnetospheres, the outer heliosphere and astrophysical systems.

The implementation of CAPSP envisages a combination of modern approaches to plasma physics, space physics, astrophysics and mathematical modelling. This will contribute to the deepening of fundamental knowledge about physical processes in outer space and the development of interdisciplinary research.

The participation of Uzhhorod University in the activities of the Centre opens up new opportunities for the development of the university's scientific potential, the expansion of international research cooperation and the involvement of young researchers in topical fundamental research. In addition to the head of the research group, it is planned to involve one more researcher, two students and one postgraduate student from the university in the fulfilment of the project tasks. Such an approach will contribute to the formation of the next generation of researchers and to their gaining experience of working in an international scientific environment.

The Simons Foundation and Simons Foundation International support the development of fundamental scientific research and mathematics in Ukraine, contributing to the strengthening of high standards of scientific activity, the development of research infrastructure and the expansion of international scientific cooperation. Within the framework of this initiative, the foundations have established a funding programme for eight to ten Centers of Excellence, selected on the basis of an open competition for the Ukrainian scientific community. The programme is aimed at supporting leading Ukrainian research teams, developing interdisciplinary research and strengthening the integration of Ukrainian science into the international scientific space.

We sincerely congratulate the scientific team of Uzhhorod University on this significant achievement! We wish successful implementation of the CAPSP project, significant scientific results, new international partnerships and further recognition of Ukrainian science at the global level!
