The Faculty of Biology of Uzhhorod National University opened its doors to future students

From 3 to 5 November, open days are being held at Uzhhorod University. School students and their parents can visit the faculty that interests them, meet the teachers and learn more about studying and admission. The schedule of meetings has been published on the university website at the link. One of the first to receive guests was the Faculty of Biology, the oldest division of the university.

The meeting was opened by the dean of the faculty, Candidate of Biological Sciences, Associate Professor Yaroslava Hasynets. She outlined what the faculty is engaged in today and what opportunities it opens up for students. The head of the division separately focused on grant activity: currently six projects with environmental, educational and genetic orientations are being implemented here. She recalled that it was researchers of the faculty who participated in the study of the genome of a Ukrainian, and now they are working on a large-scale project on 20 thousand genomes, which opens the way to personalized medicine. Graduates of the faculty find their place in diagnostic and reproductive laboratories, forensic examination, schools, urban landscaping and the agricultural sector. "The 21st century is the century of molecular biology and genetics. The most interesting science is always the one that works at the boundary, for example, of biology and informatics," emphasized Yaroslava Hasynets.

Then the dean gave the floor to her colleagues: the head of the Department of Fruit and Vegetable Growing and Viticulture, Candidate of Biological Sciences, Associate Professor Vitalii Symochko, and the head of the Department of Genetics, Plant Physiology and Microbiology, Candidate of Biological Sciences, Associate Professor Mykhailo Vakerych.

Vitalii Symochko presented the only agricultural field of higher education in Zakarpattia. Its foundation consists of horticulture, viticulture and mushroom growing, and specialists in this field are constantly in short supply. "No university will teach you everything. But the university teaches you to think and to master independently what is needed for development," the scholar is convinced.

Mykhailo Vakerych emphasized that strong students of the faculty find employment while still studying. "Yesterday you received your diploma, and today you have a salary of 30 thousand hryvnias in the position of a forensic expert," he explained, using the example of graduates who are criminalists.

Leisure activities within the division were not overlooked either. In particular, they spoke about sports competitions, annual university-wide and faculty events, as well as volunteer initiatives. In particular, during the first-year students' evening, it was possible to raise more than 20 thousand hryvnias for the 46th separate airmobile brigade.

Finally, the visitors toured the microbiological, biotechnological, genetic, cytoembryological and zoological laboratories, the laboratory of hydroecology of aquatic ecosystems and the STEM class.
