The head of the diplomatic mission of Norway to Ukraine visited UzhNU
On Friday, September 22nd, Uzhhorod National University was visited by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Norway to Ukraine, Ole Terje Horpestad, who was paying a reconnaissance visit to Uzhhorod on that day. There was a friendly meeting of the diplomat and the Vice-rector for international relations, Professor Myroslava Lendel, the head of the Department of International Studies and Public Communications, Professor, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador Serhiy Ustych and Associate Professor of the department Vitaliy Andreiko.
Mr. Ole Terje Horpestad is an experienced diplomat. His began his career as a translator, later he began to work for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Norway. Since 1990 he worked as the second secretary of the Embassy of Norway in Warsaw, then in Paris, and for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation. In recent years, Ole Terje Horpestad has been working at the Embassy of Norway in Kyiv and has been appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Belarus. He has been performing the functions of the head of the Norwegian diplomatic institution in Ukraine since September 2016 and is now actively familiarizing himself with the regions of the country. Recently he visited Lviv, Ternopil, Chernivtsi, Ivano-Frankivsk, and finally came to Uzhhorod. This is the first ever visit of the head of the diplomatic mission of Norway to Ukraine to our territory.
"Norway is located quite far from Ukraine and from Transcarpathia, in particular, but there are many lessons that we can learn from Norway, because it is a country with very convoluted history, difficult climatic conditions, the country that has become an example of the unification of economic development and social protection of its population. This meeting also gives us the opportunity to discuss the issue of further cooperation between Uzhhorod National University and the universities of Norway", - said the vice-rector Myroslava Lendel in her welcome speech at the meeting with lecturers and students.
At the end of his visit to UzhNU, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ole Terje Horpestad delivered a lecture on the history and the present of Ukrainian-Norwegian relations and answered students’ questions.
