Uzhhorod University

About

Uzhhorod University is a classic Ukrainian university and a leading educational, scientific, and socio-cultural hub of Zakarpattia. It combines academic traditions with modern approaches to education and research, grounded in European values.

In March 2026, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine adopted Resolution No. 215-r on the reorganization of UzhNU and MSU as part of the Ministry of Education and Science's reform to optimize the higher education network. As a result, the State Higher Educational Institution "Uzhhorod National University" and Mukachevo State University were merged to establish a single unified Uzhhorod University.

The primary goal of this reorganization is to consolidate educational, human, and infrastructural resources to build a powerful regional research and educational center, enhance its academic profile, and attract international funding, particularly from the World Bank.

UzhU offers full-time and part-time (distance) study programs, providing training for specialist degrees across Bachelor's, Master's, and PhD levels.

Established through the merger of Zakarpattia's two largest universities, Uzhhorod University officially launches its journey into the future on October 1, 2026, comprising 21 faculties, 4 educational and scientific institutes, and 3 professional colleges, with a total student body reaching 19,429 across all levels and disciplines.
