UzhNU signed 15 new international inter-institutional agreements in 2022
As of the end of 2022, UzhNU actively cooperated with more than a hundred (128) foreign partners. Volodymyr Smolanka, the Rector of UzhNU, noted at the meeting of the labour collective conference.that 15 new international inter-institutional agreements had been concluded by the university in 2022.
We began to collaborate actively with the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) in the UK, the University of L'Aquila in Italy, and the Union of Ukrainians of Romania in 2022. New agreements were signed and new areas of cooperation were determined with Alexander Dubcek University of Trencin (Slovakia), the University of Warsaw (Poland), the University of Pisa (Italy), Varna University of Management (Bulgaria), the University of Food Technologies (Bulgaria), Tel Aviv University (Israel) and others.
In October 2022, Uzhhorod National University became one of the co-founders of the Eastern Partnership University Cluster (EPUC), initiated by Charles University (Prague, Czech Republic). The Consortium comprises 11 universities of EU member states and Eastern European Partner countries. At the end of the year, the international relations department prepared documents and submitted an application for UzhNU to join the ATHENA European University Alliance and the EMERGE European University Alliance. Scientists and students of UzhNU took an active part in the events and projects of the Danube Rectors’ Conference.
One of the most important success criteria for modern universities is their inclusion and positioning in international rankings. Uzhhorod National University significantly improved its position in the University Impact Rankings and entered top 1000 universities world-wide and was ranked #801-1000 with 50.9 points. For comparison, in 2021 the university was ranked #1001th+ with 36.4 points in the same ranking. Thus, in 2022, UzhNU occupied a leading #3-7 position among 26 Ukrainian higher education institutions.
Since 2019, UzhNU has been included in the world ranking of universities - QS World University Rankings: EECA. Currently, our university is ranked #251-300 in it. According to the QS World University Rankings: EECA,UzhNU is ranked the 14th among Ukrainian universities. It should also be noted that Uzhhorod National University was ranked the 4th in terms of the number of foreign students among higher education institutions of Ukraine. In 2022, a multidimensional U-Multirank ranking covered 2,068 universities from 91 world-wide. Uzhhorod National University was ranked #18 among 91 Ukrainian institutions of higher education in its overall ranking table.
As for the GreenMetric World University Rankings, UzhNU took a high 9th position among 17 Ukrainian universities covered by the ranking. For comparison, in 2021, UzhNU was ranked 11th out of 18 Ukrainian universities.
In 2022, UzhNU continued to develop the opportunities for its participation in the European Erasmus+ academic mobility programme. Despite the restrictions associated with the introduction of martial law, a lot of our students and academic staff joined the programme, which allowed for the mobility of students and teachers on the basis of scholarships provided by the EU to cover the costs of study and living.
Semester studies for students and studies under double degree programmes have already become a traditional practice. Active cooperation within the framework of previously concluded agreements with the Pomeranian Academy in Slupsk (Poland), Pavel Jozef Šafarik University of Košice (Slovakia), School of Economics and Management of Public Administration in Bratislava (Slovakia), the University of Economics in Bratislava (Slovakia) continues. Collaboration with two new foreign partners began in 2022. A new cooperation agreement was also signed within the frame of the double degree programme with the University of L'Aquila (Italy).
