General information 

The Department of Internal Diseases of the Medical Faculty №2 was established in 2016. The Head of the Department is Tovt-Korshynska Marianna Ivanivna, MD, PhD, Clinical Professor of Medicine.

At the Department we teach and train english-speaking foreign students from India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Nigeria, Zimbabwe, Ghana, Egypt, Libya, Yemen, Iraq, Morocco, Israel, Hungary, Slovakia and other countries.

The list of courses:

• internal medicine (IV-VI years),

• endocrinology (IV year),

• physical rehabilitation (IV year),

• occupational diseases (V year),

• clinical immunology and allergology (V year),

• nursing practice (III year),

• elective courses for the IV and VI years,

• clinical practice in internal medicine for the IV and V years.

Studies are carried out in accordance withcertified programs approved by the Ministry of Health of Ukraine. 

The Department of Internal Diseases promotes teaching in a small seminar, conference and tutorial settings, and requires student self-evaluation, independent thinking and investigation. 

We arrange our educational activities in practically oriented manner. Our seminar teaching is based on patient cases, and during practical work weeks our students are provided with the opportunity to act as clinicians in a supervised setting in outpatient and inpatient clinics. The Staff is actively involved in organizing and supervising the students' practical training in Internal Medicine.

Lecture notes, course handbooks, worksheets for practical classes and recommendations are constantly updated and improved according to the The World Health Organization, European and local guidelines.

Academic and other informational materials are available at the e-learn.uzhnu.edu.ua. website. An electronic Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) Bank has been developed for each study course for students to be prepared for the State License exam “Krok 2. General Medicine”.

Besides the education, the Department of Internal Diseases strives to provide an excellent patient care, high-quality diagnosis and treatment in the Central City Clinical Hospital (Uzhhorod), Transcarpathian Regional Clinical Hospital, Regional War Veterans Hospital, Uzhhorod Central District Hospital, Center of Pulmonary Diseases and others.

Our aim is to help in becoming a good clinician by teaching students to communicate openly with their patients, respecting them as individuals, and improving their quality of life. We emphasize the importance of lifelong learning and the willingness to be open to new ideas.

Teachers of our Department are members of various professional societies, such as European Respiratory Society (ERS), European Society of Cardiology (ESC), European Atherosclerosis Society (EAS), United European Gastroenterology (UEG) society, European Pancreatic Club, Academy of Psychosomatic Medicine (APM), European Network for Prevention and Health Promotion in Family Medicine and General Practice (EUROPREV), World Organization of Family Doctors (WONCA), European Academy of Teachers (EURACT), Academy of Psychosomatic Medicine (APM).

The staff members undertook their postgraduate fellowships in Janko Kersnik International EURACT Bled Course for General Physician teachers (Bled, Slovenia), European Forum on Prevention and Primary Care (Porto, Portugal), Leonardo Course Level 2 (Jerusalem, Israel). They have been awarded three Semmelweis University scholarships in Budapest (Hungary), Fulbright Scholar Program (USA),Contemporary Issues Fellowship (USA), TACIS Fellowship (Great Britain).

The Department of Internal Diseases is enrolled in a wide range of randomised clinical trials focused on the care of people who are hospitalized.  Students are engaged in the research work.

Our research program is currently focused on the clinical, pathogenic and psychosomatic aspects of combined therapeutic pathology, optimization of treatment approaches.

Nowadays, five PhD dissertations (thesis) are getting prepared for defense.

The research articles of the Department Staff members are usually published in professional scientific journals, included in the database Scopus and Web of Science. More than hundred educational materials also have been published.

Every year we participate with presentations in Ukrainian and international scientific conferences, meetings and weeks.
